6th March - Dosthill (H) 0-1(L)

An excellent performance from Sporting who played some of the best football this season in a closely fought encounter. Having carved out a number of chances it was disappointing to lose by the solitary goal, however, heads stayed up and the spirit of the team was excellent right to the end.
Well done lads, Dosthill will probably win the league and I don't think they will have a tougher game. All of the lads were man of match but special mention should go to Sandeep who ran himself into the ground.
Well played.

21st February - Polesworth Swallows (A) 1-1 (D)
|
|
Having drawn previously with Polesworth Swifts sporting stepped up a level for this cup match with Polesworth Swallows. A poor first half saw Polesworth take a 1-0 lead. However, an inspired second half saw Sandeep Rai equalise and Sporting were unlucky not to get the winner they deserved.
After extra time the tie went to penalties where Polesworth converted all there kicks to progress to the next round. Bad Luck Sporting.

7th February - Polesworth Swifts (H) 1-1 (D)
|
|
An excellent all round performance from Sporting who fought back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Polesworth. A late flurry saw St Nicolas hit the woodwork on 3 occasions, however, it was the solid defensive quality of Ryan Baughan that claimed the man of the match. Goalscorer for Sporting was Sandeep Rai.

Well done Sporting, another good result! After the disaapoint of the previous weeks cup exit Sporting bounced back and won a hard earned victory on a pitch like a ploughed field. Sporting deserved more than the one goal scored by Brad Wyllie.

6th March - Wood End Tigers (A) 2 - 1 (L)
|

Wood end took the lead from kick off to go 1-0 up, they were then awarded a penalty after a foul which Jordon Thompson saved. Before we knew what was happening they had made it 2-0. Harry Dixon pulled one back for us to make it 2-1 just before half time. In the second half St Nics played slightly better than the first, it was a poor performance all round apart from Daniel Gazey who was awarded man of the match for the second week running (the only player that wanted to pass the ball). We hope things go a lot better when we play Wood End at home in a couple of weeks.

28th February St Johns Tigers (A) 5 - 2 (L)
|
|
The game was played at Moorgate School Tamworth and was in part interrupted on many occasions with St Johns players going to ground after innocuous challenges, resulting in an inordinate amount of drop balls (and frustration). Both teams got off to a good start with St Nics having a lot of possession. St Johns scored first to go 1-0 up before Harry Dixon equalised for St Nics after a great cross from Nathan Rust. It was a good first half, however St Johns just managed to nick a soft goal before the interval to go 2-1 up. The second half got off to a poor start with St Johns scoring a third and then a fourth before Nathan Rust hit the net to make it 4-2. St Johns then added another to make it 5-2. Jordan Kelly just missed scoring, putting it just over the bar after Nathan Rust had put a lovely cross in to the box. Daniel Gazey was named man of the match after a sterling performance, St Nics Manager remarked “you feel a confidence when Daniel gets the ball as he will always do something positive and his tackles are always timed to perfection”.
Next weeks game (6th March) is away to Wood End Tigers.
The fixtures to the end of March are: -
6th Wood End Tigers away 13th Wilnecote Wanderers away 20th Free week, trying to set up a friendly with the Aces 27th Wood End Tigers home

21st February (A) 2 - 2 (L) 3-2 to pens

After trailing 1 -0 at half time. Ian ‘top manager’ decided to play 2 up front instead of in defence and it paid dividends almost immediately, with Tom Waters equalising. With the amount of chances we had we should have won the game in normal time, but it finished 1-1 and went into extra time. In the first period of extra time Tom waters scored again giving us the lead 1-2, with only 2 minutes remaining, Tom Waters was brought down on the edge of the box for a free kick. Sam Barratt curled one round the wall and we all thought it was in, but it hit the bar bounced on the line and bounced out. With only 20 seconds left on the clock Ammington equalised and it went to penalties, where we lost 3-2.
Gutted!!
Man of the match went to Thomas Hughes who was the lone defender and saved us numerous times by breaking down the Ammington attack single handily. Well done to the whole team, everyone played really well it’s a shame to lose on penalties. It was a great game to watch.

14th February - Deer Park Dynamos (A) 1 - 4 (W)
|
|
A good result by St nic Diamonds Tom Waters opened the scoring in the first half Harry Dixon followed with the second then Tom Waters got the third goal. The passing and the one touch football was excellent it was like watching ‘Brazil’!Ha ha. Deer Park pulled a consolation goal back in the second half, then Nathan Rust wrapped it up with a cross come shot from the corner flag that went straight through the goalies legs. Overall it was a great performance from everyone as we didn’t have any subs, man of the match went to Liam Barkes who started off in goal because of the late arrival of our goal keeper. Liam came out of goal straight into midfield and helped set up the first goal. A boost for the team after the disappointing 1-0 loss to Gilway Boys 2 weeks ago. Well done lads keep it up.
