29th April - Haunchwood (A) 0 - 10 (W)
|
|
The recently formed Haunchwood side requested the pleasure of our company at the Arley Sports Centre ground. The Colts down to a skeleton squad emerged the stronger of the two sides today, this being apparent right from the off as a strike by Alex narrowly missed target within the first 30 seconds of the match. Constant pressure from then on kept the oppositions goalkeeper on tender hooks and looking very relieved when the half-time whistle went. Alex, playing up front today and showing some creative footwork and finishes, managed to bag an almightly six goals for his team. Kyle, Adam and Sid linked up with some perfect crosses into the box today and Alex responded well. Sid scored after some bunching up in front of goal followed by a tremendous goal taken on the volley by Adam from a cross in by Alex. On occasions Haunchwood managed a breakaway run only to be stopped in their tracks by some precision timed tackles by Cameron. Our defence, however, was put to the test slightly more in the second half but the lads remained calm and determined throughout and continued to dominate. Both Danielle and Ewan scored today; Danielle served Ewan well with a lovely cross into the box which Ewan netted and then he returned the gesture opening up play for Danielle to put her shot away. Half-time scoreline 5-0. Full-time scoreline 10-0.
Goalscorers: Alex (6), Sid (1), Adam (1), Danielle (1). Ewan (1) Man of the match : Alex Well done both sides today and GOOD LUCK St Nics for the forthcoming tournaments!!!!!!!!

23rd April - Chetwynd (H) 12 - 0 (W)
|
|
There was an air of confidence throughout the team today. The Colts stamped authority over the Chetwynd side straight from the whistle and early attempts on goal by Declan, Alex and Nathan sent shockwaves through the Chetwynd defence. Adam worked tirelessy upand down the right flank today creating numerous hazards for the oppositions keeper. Nathan scored twice from Adams crosses into the box and Adam then set up the third goal for the Colts by being awarded a freekick just outside the box which hit the crossbar and ricocheted into the path of Declan who was waiting to pounce. Kyle and Sid made an appearance 10 minutes into the game and they soon made their presence felt. Linking up well with Cameron, Kyle took a long range shot which almost seemed to be his first touch on the ball and he fired it into the back of the net. Some creative linking up play between Sid and Nathan put Chetwynd under persistent pressure and resulted in a hat-trick for Sid.
Half-time scoreline 7-0
Roles were reversed this half seeing the likes of Cameron, Ewan and Danielle playing forward roles and this they did well seeing Danielle weave her way through defenders and putting her shot away. Ewan was next on the scoresheet with a shot sent high into the top of the net from a distance. He was also seen producing some strong runs down the left this week. Alex, who had so many near misses and shots on target today, remained solid in central midfield. His efforts didn't go unrewarded however duplicating Ewans goal he put away no.10. Chetwynd did win a corner-kick this half which woke up the likes of Sid (in goals) and Declan (defence) but unfortunately for Chetwynd the Colts were on form today and nothing came of it. The attacking continued and the goals kept coming. The 11th by Kyle who had made a great run down the right and fired his shot with so much force that it seemed to take the keeper in the net with it. Alex had yet another near miss, Nathan managed to make his hat-trick and a last minute run through the centre by Cameron narrowly missed target. A recipe of success today for St Nics Colts with the main ingredients being a sprinkling of showmanship, a heap of effort, a dusting of ball control and a huge serving of teamwork. Well done all!!! Final score-line 12 - 0 Man of the match: Declan Goalscorers: Nathan 3, Declan 1, Kyle 2, Sid 3, Ewan 1, Danielle 1,Alex 1.

9th April - Stanton (H) 8 - 0 (W)
|
|
After having played against their parents at Friday evenings training session, the wealth of experience they gained that night truly paid off for the Colts today. Nathan set the tempo in which the game was to be played right from the off, immediately testing out Stanton's defence with a solo run from the halfway line. Alex and Sid soon linked up with Nathan and both produced near misses courtesy of some strong passes being fed into the box, with precision, by Kyle who netted the first goal of the game witha high shot, from outside the box, which looped its way just over the top of the keeper's grasp. The second came in the form of a penalty which was awarded for a handball decision. Nathan calmly executed this, like a professional, into the bottom righthand corner leaving the keeper standing. Sid scored the third after battling on the left through two defenders and the fourth followed after a shot by Kyle ricocheted off the keeper into the path of Alex who cheekily fired it through the keeper's legs. Great forward play this half meant a quiet time in defence however Cameron made a couple of decisive tackles halting any further advances and leaving Danielle counting the squares on the goal-netting.
Half-time score 4 - 0
Major changes to the team in the second half with most players finding themselves in new positions. Euan, Declan and Nathan were on the attack, Declan fired an early shot narrowly missing target and finding the side-netting and Euan linked up well with Nathan who scored no.5 for the Colts. Further changes to the squad were made seeing Danielle and Cameron upfront and Sid and Adam in defence. Good passing play was created between Declan who passed to Cameron, then on to Danielle who found Euan who squeezed the ball between the keeper and the post making the Colts 6 - 0 up. (Was his mom to be seen?) Cameron produced some unselfish play by giving up his striking opportunity on seeing Danielle flying up the wing into the box. He remembered his training and linked up perfectly with her creating goal no.7. Surprisingly Stanton did keep battling, their heads never went down, and in this half, to the delight of their supporters ,desperately tried hard to penetrate our defence. Unfortunately for them Adam stopped anything that came over the halfway line and thread some lovely balls up front and Sid took on the role of last defender who ensured nothing disturbed Kyle's mid-morning siesta in goal. The final nail in the coffin for Stanton was a final attack on goal by Alex who struck the ball high above the keeper making the full-time scoreline 8 - 0.

2nd April - Grove Farm A (H) 2 - 0 (W)
|
|
It was the turn of Stockingford based Grove Farm to visit the Colts fortress and even though they came with the words ` pride of Nuneaton` upon their shirts it wouldn’t be enough against this ever improving Colts team.
The Colts started strongly with Kyle making full use of the large pitch as he strung passes out wide to Adam and Sid and the tricky wing play from this pair put the Grove farm defence under much pressure. The first goal was to come from a set-piece with the colts winning a throw-in deep in the oppositions half, Sid quickly freed Nathan who in turn crossed to the far post for Adam to crash an unstoppable shot passed the helpless Stockingford keeper. The second goal wasn’t far behind with the ball looping up in the Grove farm box, Sid rose like a salmon and headed the ball home into the empty net.
Half Time 2-0
With Alex now being added to the midfield in place of Cameron and Sid replacing Danielle between the sticks it was always going to be an uphill battle for the Farm, however battle they did and despite making in-roads into the colts final third they were always met by the tough tackling Ewan who wasn’t to give them a yard of space and protected the colts rear guard sniffing out any signs of danger. The Colts were to find the woodwork twice in this half, the first coming after a great through ball from Danielle freed Nathan who’s shot from an acute angle rebounded to safety from the foot of the post. Next a great run from Adam saw him up-ended on the edge of the Grove Farm box and Kyle saw his Beckham style free kick rock the Grove Farm upright. With Alex working tirelessly in the centre of the park breaking up the opposition’s play and Sid commanding the edge of his area the result was never in question.
Result 2-0
Another great team performance against an up and coming Farm side. Man of the Match…Tricky Winger Adam….
Note: Training moved to friday for this week 7th April 6.15 start...

25th March - Weddington Thistle (A) 0 - 8 (W)
|
|
The sun was shining, the wind was blowing, the colts were scoring!! The game started off very tightly with both teams making advances into there opponents half , however as the half progressed the colts were to steadily gain control and were 2-0 up at half time courtesy of two great goals, a long distance strike from Kyle and clinical finish from Adam.
Half Time 2-0
The strength of St. Nics was evident in the second half as they really took the game to their opponents. Every member of the team played their part although the goalies (Danielle first half, Cameron after the break) and defence had very little to do throughout the match. Sids excellent runs on the left put constant pressure on the Weddington defence and proved to be decisive when combining with Declan, Nathan, Kyle, Adam and Alex, it was evident that the Colts were always going to come out on top.
A number of Substitutions were made during the game to give the players experience in playing in different positions and they didn`t disapoint as they quickly took control of the game and went into a goal scoring frenzy with goals from Declan, Nathan (2), Alex (2) and Danielle, as the game moved into its final stages Ewan the ever reliable defensive kingpin was moved into a midfield position where he hoped to see more of the ball and add his name to the score sheet , however time wasn`t on his side and the ref end the game with the Colts finishing on 8-0.
Colts Player of the Match went to Danielle and the team were all rewarded with a jam noughnut for there efforts.

19th March - Lutterworth Jnr & Youth (A) 1 - 1 (D)
|
|
Today we took a trip to the countryside and found the home of Lutterworth FC. Currently positioned 2nd in the Leicester League it was inevitable that the Colts were to have a battle on their hands. St Nics were put under heavy pressure early on and Euan and Cameron most definitely had their work cut out eliminating the opportunity of any shots at goal. The lads fought back almost with a vengeance, however, showing strong teamwork between Adam, Nathan, Kyle and Sid, winning throw ins and corners which created shots on target by Adam and Nathan but unfortunately not reaching their desired destination. By the end of the first half it seemed that the Colts had taken the upperhand. Half-time score 0 - 0
Endorsing this, the lads attacked straight from the whistle, and within the first 2 minutes of this half we saw an attempt at goal by Nathan being saved by the keeper and almost immediately afterwards Declan, Adam and Nathan put a string of passes together which found Alex who ensured his name was placed on the scoresheet. Lutterworth weren't going to take a backseat and replied trying their hardest to penetrate our half. The magic of Danielle and Euan held them off until the last 5 minutes of the game when Cameron, who had replaced Danielle in goal, was given the opportunity to show off his goalkeeping skills in the form of 2 great saves but unfortunately their 3rd attempt found the back of the net.
A good performance by both teams today with some very encouraging signs by the Colts showing they can work just as well defending as a team as they do attacking. Full-time score 1-1

12th March - Chetwynd (H) 0-0 (D)
|
|
The Colts were unusually unsteady for the first five minutes of the game and Chetwynd made it difficult for our 'passing around of the ball' style play to take form. Gradually, however, we managed to penetrate their strong defence with some fine distribution between Nathan, Alex, Declan and Adam resulting in some strong attacks on goal. We were first to the ball from all of their keepers' goal kicks which maximised opportunities for us to score. However their keeper proved exceptionally strong and kept at bay two fine strikes by Adam and further attempts by Nathan and Alex. A breakaway attempt just before half-time by Chetwynd kept our defence on their toes and Cameron made a crucial tackle to keep the scoreline 0-0 at half-time.
The second half saw Declan being replaced for Sid who showed a determined effort down the left flank and with Adam tirelessly probing well down the right opened up play allowing St Nics to pass the ball around as they like to and to take control. Numerous attempts on goal were made in this half but resolute defending by the Chetwynd players kept our usual clinical finishes at bay. Towards the end of the game Chetwynd had one or two breakaways which were never going to come to fruition because Danielle was on top form today in defence making some fine tackles down the left and Euan was ever ready on the right.
A good sign of St Nics dominance of the game was that our keeper (Cameron) never handled the ball this half and due to the horrendous conditions the boys were playing in today meant we just lacked that finishing touch. Full-time score 0-0
Well done to all and hopefully you will have thawed out for next weeks' game.

26th February - Barwell Beavers (H) 1-2 (L)
|
|
This re-scheduled game with Barwell saw the furry creatures turn up with a few giants which towered above the home side. The Colts weren't to be phased though in a game which saw them with most of the possession but short on legs when the bigger Barwell lads were breaking out of defence. The first half saw Cameron in goal and Declan on the touchline eager toget involved ( and warm!). An early attack from the Colts defence resulted in a foul in our favour. Kyle the dead ball specialist took the free kick although they weren't able to capitalise on this. The game saw great determination from Sid, Nathan, Adam and Kyle in pressing forward whilst Danielle and Ewan wre tackling every Barwell player that came their way. Suddenly Barwell turned defence into attack and won a throw in which was thrown all the way into the goalies area and the ball was turned in past an unsighted Cameron. This did not deter our brave terriers who came out straight from the kick off and again put Barwell under pressure, a Kyle back heel finding Sid who took on a couple of defenders before winning a corner. Later, solid defence from Ewan and Danielle released Sid who won a free kick taken by Adam. Barwell defended and put the ball out for another Colts corner. This was taken by Kyle but the opponents managed to break free from our pressure and put a second into the onion bag. A very cold Declan came on for Adam who like the others had run tirelessly for the cause.
Half-time 0-2
The Colts were playing uphill in the second half with Danielle in goal and Cameron joining Ewan in defence, but the Colts showed their strength and it wasn't longbefore the forwards combined well and Nathan pegged one back for the Blues. It was end to end stuff with some great surging runs from Nathan, Sid and Declan with strong midfield play from Kyle. Sid was winded in one attack and was replaced by Adam, this bolstered the midfield and with strong tackling from the defensive duo Barwells chances were reduced even further. Declan was brought down when on a mazy run through their opponents defence and Kyles' free kick whizzed past the post with the goalie rooted to the spot. Barwell only had one other chance when they picked up a loose pass out of defence, but just as the striker was about to pull the trigger Ewan appeared from nowhere and made a timely block.
Full time 1-2
Well done to Danielle and the boys for a battling performance, and thanks to Geoff Watkins for this weeks match report.

18th February - Bulkington Sports (A) 0-8 (W)
|
|
AWESOME........The Colts (who had probably been sitting in front of the tv for most of the half-term) were today ready for some exercise in the form of an 0-8 win over Bulkington Sports. Had we have known what a spectacular display of football was in store for us this morning then we would have charged the spectators.
Back to a full squad, each one of the players gave 110% today. We saw:
- the might of Kyle, Adam, Declan, Nathan and Sid surging forward time and time again.
- the scoresheet being opened by a superb strike off a Kyle corner by Declan.
- a very cheeky header placed over the top of the keeper's head by Nathan.
- an attacking forward advance by Danielle who almost hit target.
- a goal by Euan (and his Mum wasn't there to see it).
- precise corner kicks and near misses by both Adam and Kyle.
- Aiden and Cameron taking control of the back line.
- some very fancy footwork and backheels by Sid.
- 8 goals: Declan (1), Nathan (1), Euan (1), Sid (5).
What more could we have asked for?????
Bulkington Sports battled continuously but it was just a case of them feeling the heat off the Colts as the lads today were most definitely on fire. Half-time score: 0-3

11th February - St Nicolas U8 Boys (H) 1-1 (D)
|
|
Due to illness in the squad Barwell Beavers had to postpone and the St Nics U8 squad stepped in last minute to give us a game. The Colts, who had no idea as to whom they were to play, stood rather bemused awaiting the whistle. The U7s immediately started to attack the U8s defence with some prominent passing around of the ball by the midfield players Kyle, Declan and Sid who tried their best to link up with Nathan up front which showed encouraging signs around the goalmouth and seemed to install confidence into the team. The U8s responded as expected which put our defence, Danielle and Ewan, under pressure and produced two sensational saves by Cameron in goal. Plenty of end to end play followed and constant battling in midfield resulted in a free-kick for the Colts. Kyle, who did what he seems to do best, took the long range shot that found itself in the back of the net.
Half-time score 1 - 0
The second half saw Aiden on the ball and Danielle and Cameron having a change around. It also saw the U8s taking advantage of the slope and soon scored an equalizer. The U7s stepped up a gear realising they needed to work even harder uphill which produced some quality football and real team effort from both squads. Well done all.
Final score 1-1
(No Adam this week - hope you're feeling better soon!!!)

28th January - Hinckley Utd Cobra`s (H) 4-1 (W)
|
|
The Colts kicked off on a bright but cold morning starting with Cameron between the sticks whilst Subs, Aiden and Kyle, tried to keep themselves warm on the touchline. Hinckley were immediately put under early pressure with attacks from Nathan, Declan and Sid keeping the opposition on the backfoot and leaving Ewan and Danielle to patrol their own backline ready for any counter attacks. These rarely happened though as the Colts were so dominant in the first half that Hinckley barely ventured past the centre circle. Adam was the set play specialist, taking corners and free kicks, and after a long range shot on goal he took a free kick that just whistled past the post. Nathan's shot then hit the Hinckley upright and the following melee resulted in hand-ball and a penalty for the Colts which Nathan promptly placed in the far corner out of the goalies reach. Not long after Sid went on a run dribbling through the Hinckley defence before placing a second past the goalkeeper. The blues were rampant going forward with further shots from Nathan and Adam before Ewan and Adam were replaced by Kyle and Aiden. An effort from Sid was well blocked by the goalie before Hinckley had virtually their first breakaway into the Colts half which was well defended before another near miss from Sid and a shot from Kyle which went over the bar.
Half- time 2 - 0
The second half saw Danielle take over in goal and just after Ewan replaced Declan in centre midfield, Hinckley won a throw in resulting in a rare breakaway and goal. This only seemed to spur on the Colts with greater determination, with Cameron battling to keep the ball in the oppositions half and which saw Nathan and Sid denied by the goalie before the Colts gained possession from a Hinckley throw in and for Sid to score his second of the game. By this time Adam had replaced Aiden and not long after this Hinckley saw a throw in intercepted by Kyle who finished off with a long range effort that the goalie couldn't keep out. The remainder of the second half saw more substitutions and constant pressure from the blues with a great run down the line from Aiden, who was now back on, and good efforts from Kyle and Adam supported with strong tackling from Ewan.
Final result 4 - 1
Another fine team effort with everyone playing their part in a convincing performance. Well done boys and Danielle and many thanks to Geoff Watkins (Ewan's dad) for this match report.

15th January - Weddington U8's (A) 5-1 (L)
|
|
It didn't take a genius to see that this was not going to be an easy game with already knowing that Weddington were a year older and then to be greeted by, what must have seemed to be by the lads, giants. What we did know, however, was that our little terriers would give them a battle.
This they most certainly did. Weddington made an early attack putting Ewan, Cameron and Danielle under heavy pressure. They most certainly had their work cut out seeing some courageous tackles by Ewan, valiant defending by Cameron and two shots being calmly stopped in their tracks by Danielle. We also saw Adam Parker make a superb clearance off the line from a shot which could have cost us dearly. The Colts were not phased in fact seemed to be spurred on with Sid and Kyle making some strong runs down the flanks which made the opposition realise that the St Nics boys were not just good at defending. A free-kick was awarded from a distance which Kyle took and with his strength behind it almost hit target. This installed confidence into the boys as they continued their battle until the half-time whistle blew. Half-time scoreline 0 - 0.
The team saw some changes at half-time which took the players a little while to adjust to. Weddington made the most of this and quickly scored with a second coming not much after. Heads down - NEVER - Aiden showing excellent defending managed to pass the ball forward resulting in a cross into the box by Sid being met by Declan who struck it into the bottom lefthand corner. Nathan Wilson almost scored a second for the Colts when his shot found the crossbar. Weddington responded and scored their third and by this time had started to pass the ball around better than they had done in the first half and eventhough the Colts battled to the last second they were unable to stop Weddington scoring a further 2 goals. Well done boys (and Danielle) for battling to the end.

19th November - Stanton V St Nics Colts (A) 1 - 3 (W)
|
|
Brrrr.... on a cold and frosty morning St Nics Colts faced an away trip to Stoney Stanton. The spectators were soon warmed up with what proved to be a half hour of superb football by the lads. Playing uphill, and with Nathan Wilson in goal, the Colts took early control of the game continually trying to penetrate the Stanton defence. The first goal came early on into the match seeing a determined Declan Brennan battle through defender after defender and steering a cross into the goal mouth which was put away by Sid Duggan. Along came the second goal this time from Adam Parker who stood strong against the opposition to take a shot on target which didn't quite get there but managed to find Sid Duggan once again who neatly put the ball into the back of the net. Stanton not to be deterred did try to attack on numerous occasions only to be halted by strong play by our defenders Ewan and Danielle. Declan Brennan showed real strength of character when he ran from the halfway line amidst plenty of ankle tapping and shirt tugging to strike the ball high into the net from outside the box.
Half-time scoreline 0 - 3
This half saw Ewan Watkins taking control of the goal for the Colts and Nathan resuming his normal role of striker. It also saw a different and much more determined Stanton side. They made a shot on goal which was cleared by Cameron Cook who soon after found himself and Danielle Fairey under pressure once again. After a desperate scramble by the opposition the ball somehow managed to reach the back of the net. Stanton persistantly attacked this half but Cameron and Danielle saw to it that nothing else was going to get past them. Kyle Brown nearly scored a fourth for the Colts but was stopped by the hand of a Stanton player and chosen to be ignored by the referee. This meant that the final result remained 1 - 3.
Teamwork once again was very apparent in this match, well done boys and Danielle........".this is the way we play the game on a cold and frosty morning!"

12th Nov - St Nics Colts v Grove Farm (H) 7 - 1 (W)
|
|
The Colts, with Cameron Cook in goal, didn't hesitate to show Grove Farm that they meant business. Heavy pressure around the goal by Kyle Brown, Nathan Wilson and Declan Brennan resulted in an early goal for Kyle. Not long after saw Nathan Wilson weave through the oppositions defence to score the second goal for the Colts and, after being brought down outside of the box, Kyle was given a free-kick which found the back of the net. Grove Farm made every effort to get back at the lads but Aidan Donnison and Ewan Watkins made sure that anything that came across the halfway line was dealt with in a very positive manner thus giving Cameron a quiet time in goal this half. Strong attacking teamwork enabled Declan to score a further 2 goals for his team before half-time. Half-time score 5 - 0.
The second half saw Kyle taking his turn in goal and Danielle Fairey taking control in defence. The Colts continued as they had started the game with a barrage of attacks on the opposition from Sid Duggan, Adam Parker and Cameron Cook. Adam scored the next goal with a strong shot which sailed straight through the keepers hands followed by a shot in the lefthand corner of the net by Sid. As the emphasis seemed to be on scoring Grove Farm managed to break away which resulted in a goal for the opposition. Once again teamwork was the key in this match - Well done boys (and Danielle).

5th Nov St Nic`s Colts V Lutterworth Town (H) 7-0 (W)
|
|
First game together since splitting into seperate teams and what a great performance. The first goal came from the peanlty spot after Adam Parker was brought down in the box, Nathan Wilson stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. The second goal saw Nathan Wilson pounce on a poor clearence to lob the keeper for his second. The rest of the first half was very tight with some strong defending from Cameron Cook and Ewan Watkins to prevent Danielle Fairey being troubled in goal with Sid Duggan causing constant problems down the left and Kyle Brown holding things together in the middle of the park.
Half time 2-0
The second half saw Aidan Donnison and Declan Brennan come on and it didn't take long for things to settle down with some superb passing and moving with the Colt's unstopable finishing really making the difference. The second half saw 5 goals from Adam Parker (2) Declan Brennan (2) and Danielle Fairey.
Full time 7-0
A fine performance that every player played their part and should be very very proud.
