Match Reports

2nd April - Rebels 0 - 0 Bedworth Uni

St Nicolas Rebels stormed to the top of the league in dominant fashion
against Bedworth United at the weekend.

Although the game finished goaless Rebels produced another tremendous performance and always looked the more likely to win.

In fact Adam, who was named man-of-the-match, came inches from winning the game when his blockbuster of a shot hammered
against the crossbar.

The boys played some lovely football and must be oozing with confidence when they face a tough away tie against another Bedworth side on Sunday.

March 26 - Nuneaton Boy Bears 0 - 2 Rebels

The clocks went forward an hour and everyone had an hour less in bed and it looked like the boys were still asleep for the first couple of minutes of this game. They gifted one of the Bears a long range effort from which wide awake Dan made a brilliant save.

This seemed to wake the boys up who started to pass the ball around with some skill and it wasn't long after that Ryan scored his first goal in a Rebel's shirt. This was the culmination of a tackle by Adam deep in the Rebel's half who played a long ball to Tyler, who in turn passed to Ryan to pick his spot, and he put the ball in the back of the net.

The game was very much end to end with both the Bears and Rebels coming close to scoring. The Bears keeper made some fine saves to deny the Rebels a second goal until the ref gave a penalty for handball. Whilst their keeper made a valiant effort and got a hand to the ball, Adam's kick was just too powerful and the boys were now two goals up with only minutes to go.

Late on in the game there was a scramble in the oppositions goal mouth when we were all willing Ollie to score his first goal but unfortunately it was just not to be.

The seven man Rebels team were worn out at the end of the game and thoroughly deserved their victory for all their hard work.

The man of the match award went to Ryan as much for his goal as for his efforts to tackle back and ball control skills.

Well done boys.

19th Mach - Ambleside Sharks 1 - 1 Rebels

Brilliant Rebels left one of their best performances for last ending their league battle in real style.

Ambleside took an early unconvincing lead but Rebels hit back and produced some of their best football yet.

In a thrilling end-to-end game Rebels equalised with a stunning strike from Tyler which was just reward following lovely passing football.

All of the boys battled their hearts out and after surving an amazing
goalmouth scramble could have gone on and won it.

5th March - Bedworth Rangers 2 - 0 Rebels

Unlucky St Nicolas battled through the snow but couldn't stop Bedworth taking the honours.

Thankfully the boys didn't pick up too many tips from Villa v Portsmouth the day before because the defeat would most certainly have been heavier.

The Rebels were unlucky to go behind to a scrambled shot which just trickled over the line despite the best efforts from Dan, who made some outstanding saves.

The Rebels never gave up and continued to try and play football but were hit by another goal deep into the second half. They were unlucky not to hit back and their non-stop running and battling
deserved some reward.

Once again all of the boys should be proud of their efforts.

26th February - Rebels 0 - 2 Chetwynd Falcons

Battling Rebels suffered a home defeat despite another great footballing performance.

The Rebels, welcoming Luke back, trailed to an unlucky early goal.

But once again their fighting spirit showed and, led by Reece with another dynamic performance up front, they played some great passing football.

Chetwynd's defence held strong amnd they scored a second later in the game but once again Rebels continued to battle away and tried valiantly to hit back.

Reece was awarded man-of-the-match but the boys can all be proud of the way they played.

19th February - Rebels 0 - 4 Ambleside Sharks

Brave Rebels ran their legs off and never gave up despite having to play with only six boys.

With keeper Dan and Ryan away the Rebels were always going to have an uphill battle but they did themselves proud and almost went through the first half without conceding a goal.

Adam and Reece shared the goalkeeping duties and despite being missed in their normal positions they played very well and deserve a lot of credit.

All of the other boys also dug deep and continued to try and play football making endless tackles as the visitors took advantage of their extra player. David deservedly was made man-of-the-match for a tough defensive performance.

5th February - Rebels 0 - 1 Ambleside Marlins

Brave Rebels were knocked out of the cup with a lucky goal after a gutsy performance from the boys.

Down to a bare seven the Rebels had to change their winning formation against their higher league opponents.

But the Rebels never stopped battling and despite going behind to a fortunate goal tried to play football.

Once again the boys were a credit to themselves as they finished the game on a high with a spirited, never-say-die performance.

22nd January - Bedworth United 0 - 1 Rebels

Battling Rebels came out of the fog as worthy winners in their first league battle of 2006.

The Rebels played some of their best football yet as they took control of the game.

Playing down a slope first half, which would have been better suited for skiing, the Rebels knew they had to make it count.

And after several near misses it was a sensational move which gave
man-of-the-match Tyler a free shot at goal which he buried brilliantly.

And despite playing uphill in the second half the Rebels still looked like the team most likely to score.

All of the boys played excellent and keep improving.

11th December - Rebels 3 - 0 Nuneaton Boy Bears

Hat-trick - three successes of the same kind, especially (in soccer) a player scoring three goals in a game or (in cricket) a bowler taking three wickets with successive balls. ORIGIN first referring to the presentation of a new hat to a bowler taking a hat-trick.

It's the first time we've seen one so thought you might like an explanation and as Bruce would say 'didn't he do well'.

The first came from a well taken corner kick which arrived at the right height for Reece to run on to and powerfully head home. Personally my first thought was 'stunning goal' which then turned to concern that with the power behind it Reece was going to have one heck of a headache.

The second and third were both excellent team efforts. The second goal involved Ryan, Adam, Harry and finally Reece who had a bit of luck, but put the ball into the net. The third goal started with a determined tackle by David who passed to Adam who in turn passed to Harry and on to Reece for his third and final goal.

Whilst Reece scored three goals he could have had more, with the Boy Bears keeper pulling off a magnificent save in the second half and a couple of other chances which just went wide.

Guess who got man of the match.

A well deserved win and as good as any Christmas Present.

4th December - Rebels 0 - 5 Attleborough Sports

The Rebels battled hard against their high-flying opponents but eventually fell to some excellent goals.

Ryan came the closest for St Nics with a stinging drive which thudded off the post after one of the best moves of the game.

Despite being under a lot of pressure and Dan making some fantastic saves St Nicolas never gave up and always looked likely of hitting back.

Oncce again all of the boys were a credit to themselves and David was made man-of-the-match.

27th November - Haunchwood Panthers 5 - 1 Rebels

On the Saturday it looked like we were going to have only 5 players but on the Sunday we were just one short, and those who played put in a valiant effort against the Panthers and Reece certainly shocked them with some blistering runs.

Tyler played his first full game and made an immediate impact in defence putting in some good tackles and showing a healthy turn of speed on the ball.

It was never going to be an easy game and when a friendly local dog invaded the pitch we nearly signed him up on the spot, but he was just too young and lacked concentration.

To achieve one goal was a credit to everyone's endeavours on the day and well laid on by Reece for Adam to slam in off the post.

6th November Rebels 1 - 5 Bedworth Rangers

Battling St Nicolas spluttered in the torrential rain as an excellent
Bedworth side took control.

It started so well for the Rebels who, after having a penalty denied, took the lead thanks to a low shot from Adam.

But Bedworth hit back and scored two quick goals before half time although St Nics battled admirably and had chances themselves to equalise.

In the second half Bedworth increased their lead but the Rebels never looked overwhelmed and always tried to play attacking football.

16th October - Chetwynd Falcons 1 - 0 Rebels

How did we lose that? Sometimes in football you don't get what
you deserve and that's exactly what happened to the Rebels on Sunday.

The fired-up Rebels were great from the start and continued their amazing transformation in real style dominating the game against a physical Chetwynd side.

Chetwynd scored a soft goal early on which was more of a cross than a shot but the Rebels never once let their heads drop and always looked likely to go on and win the game.

Ollie was given the much sought after man-of-the-match award but Ryan also deserves a mention for some thumping tackles in defence. In fact, once again all the boys played well and new boy Tyler also made an impressive debut.

Overall, another great performance and the goals will come.

2nd October - Rebels 2 - 1 Bedworth United

The Magnificent Seven ride again...and this time they blasted holes in a shell-shocked Bedworth defence.

The Rebels once again turned on the style and passed the ball around like Brazil.

From Dan in goal to rock solid defenders Ryan and Luke, battling
midfielders Adam and Ollie, and the new striking partnership sensation of Harry and Reece, the Rebels performed brilliantly to clock up a great back-to-back victory. That's 6 points in two games!

Rebels looked dominant from the start and were always in control and it was hot-shot Reece who found himself on the scoresheet again bagging two valuable goals.

Although Bedworth hit back with a very well struck free-kick, the Rebels were always going to win a highly entertaining game of football.

Two 'man of the match' awards were presented to Luke for some excellant defending and Harry for his battling performance as well as assisting in the two goals. It's a pity that there were not enough awards to give one to everybody.

25th September Nuneaton Boy Bears 1 - 3 Rebels

What a game! What a result! What a performance!

The Rebels finally turned on the style in a real 3-star performance
that left their long-suffering fans in raptures on the sidelines.

First Adam scored then hit the back of the net again with a thundering penalty kick.

And despite Nuneaton Boys hitting back in the second half with an early goal it was one-way traffic and Reece capped a briliant performance with a well earned third goal.

All of the boys played brilliantly and with this new found confidence could go on and clinch many more victories.

18th September - Atleborough Sports 3 - 0 Rebels

Another battling performance by the Rebels.

Attleborough went ahead in the last few minutes of the first half after what the Rebels would describe as the attacker tripping over his own feet, however unfortunately for the Rebels the referee saw differently and awarded a penalty. Whilst Dan in net went the right way the ball slipped under his body to give the oppostion a 1-0 lead at half time.

During the second half Dan borrowed Paul Robinson's hands and pulled off some brilliant saves to keep the Rebel's hopes alive. Attleborough were however too strong and finished the game 3-0 victors.

This was a good performance by the Rebels who as ever deserved more for the effort they put in.

10th September - Rebels 1 - 5 Haunchwood Panthers

It all started so well. A fantastic run down the right from Reece and a
thundering cross into the box which was met perfectly by Adam who drilled it home with ease.

First game, first half and we were winning and looking full of confidence. In fact we could have been further in front as the Rebels battled and played with real style.

However, Haunchwood hit back and our heads dropped after they equalised. They eventually ran out comfortable winners but the Rebels never gave up and fought bravely to the end.

Ryan was handed the much sought after man-of-the-match award after an impressive performance and hopefully with a few more games together the Rebels will be a force to be reckoned with.
