League Cup Final, 26th April-Chiefs (Bedworth Utd Oval) 4-1 (W)
|

Having already secured the league title, the Colts went into this first of three cup finals with eager anticipation and it was surely an honour for St Nicolas FC with their counterparts the Chiefs as the opponents. Summer decided to make its arrival as the weather was warm and sunny, setting the perfect scene for the day. The Colts kicked off and both sides worked hard to establish their authority on a fast but bumpy pitch. The first half started off fairly quietly and it was a while before any real chances were created, Joe heading the ball against the post from a corner, another corner followed but this was easily cleared by the Chiefs. The Colts were comfortable at the back as Ewan and Cameron were in control leaving Danielle with little to do, whilst Sid who was playing in an unfamiliar central position, Joe and Curtis worked the midfield with Harry up front hoping to create some openings or latch on to any opportunities created for him. Adam replaced Curtis and had a left foot shot which was saved before Joe and Harry linked together to open play up for Adam who let fly, the keeper made a fingertip save and was unfortunate to see the ball fall behind him into the back of the net. The Chiefs were not to be out done and applied pressure winning a corner, this was whipped in at a good height but Danielle came out to gather the ball. Sid had a chance as he broke through but the Chiefs put in a good tackle and won a goal kick with the last touch coming off Sid’s shin. HT 1-0 Curtis replaced Harry at the start of the second half as both teams came out to an expectant crowd. The Chiefs were on the attack and had a good opportunity which was well defended by Cameron who put the ball out for a corner. Again this was whipped in at the perfect height but the Colts cleared their lines and were immediately on the counter attack, the ball broke to Joe from a midfield tussle and he outstripped the defenders before hitting the onion bag to give the Colts a cushion. Sid was covering central midfield with tenacity as he wore the captains’ armband for the day and it was his determination that led to a free kick. Curtis floated the ball over the wall and into the net for a comfortable lead. The Chiefs continued to play and had a shot from which Danielle made a great save, they then attacked down the left and just as the ball was being teed up for a cross into the box Ewan came across and made a tremendous block to put the ball out for a corner. This was drilled in low and was cleared form the foot of the post for another corner which was bundled in as the Colts tried to clear their lines. Harry replaced Joe and a Chiefs attack was broken down as the ball was intercepted and played wide before Adam was played in to notch his second of the game. FT 4-1 Very well played both teams and the managers who were a credit in the way the game was played. The day was like the real thing for the teams, playing at Bedworth Utd Oval and using the dressing rooms, they were announced by their names and shirt numbers, both teams even climbing the steps as if at the old Wembley Stadium to receive their trophies. Keep going Colts, only another two cup finals to go!!
Captain: Sid Scorers: Adam (2), Joe (1), Curtis (1)
Managers Comment What a great day both for club and teams, the match was played in a fine spirit between two teams determined to win the cup, but by the time the full time whistle had gone more than happy enough to shake hands and have a picture with their medals and cup together. The day was an absolute credit to the League and Bedworth Utd officials with a bunch of 8/9 year old children who absolutely love the game able to sample the delights of Changing rooms, meeting officials, PA announcements, playing on a non league ground as well as the after ceremony. It really was a day to remember and with the Colts having that little extra which saw then deservedly lift the trophy , the day couldn`t get much better. I was starting to wonder if maybe the Colts has gone of the boil slightly after struggling through both semi’s before today, but this performance soon answered any doubts i may have had and I can only applaud the team for that.
A day to remember……well done Colts and Chiefs.

16th April-St Nicolas Chiefs Police Cup Semi Final (H) 1-0 (W)
|
|
The game started with the Chiefs kicking off and playing down the slope, they were straight on to the offensive as the ball was played through the middle. The attack broke down and the Colts countered with Harry getting the last touch which was saved by the keeper. It was clear this was going to be a close game as each side worked hard to create an opening, the Chiefs playing the ball to the right before hitting a shot wide of the post. The Colts attacked again as Kyle played the ball out wide left to Adam, his run was stopped when the Chiefs put the ball out for the first corner of the game but the corner was cleared. Curtis put a shot wide of the post before the Chiefs worked the ball up to the other end, Danielle saving at the near post. The game was to and fro and the Colts were off target with another attempt before Adam hit the post but still there was no score. Cameron and Ewan were solid as ever in defence and both were showing a good reading of the game when covering for each other. Sid and Joe replaced Adam and Harry as the Colts strove to keep their impetus, Joe playing Kyle in whose shot was saved, Sid determined as always hassling the Chiefs defensively and quick feet on the offensive. HT 0-0 The Colts re started and wasted no time in getting the ball forward, Kyle was having an impressive game and sent in a shot only to see the keeper make the save. The Chiefs then had an opportunity albeit long range as the defence stood firm and Danielle was able to come out to the edge of the box to collect the ball. It looked as if it could be stalemate but when Kyle picked up a loose ball and fed Curtis in a wide position, he let fly and put the Colts in the lead in this tight encounter. Changes were made as first Ewan and then Cameron were substituted, but the Chiefs weren’t out of it by a long chalk and very nearly took the game into extra time when a cross from the left sat up in front of goal but somehow the end result was put high and wide of the post. Phew!!! Well played Chiefs, this was a really good game albeit a nail biter. FT 1-0
A big well done to The Colts who having won the league have now played their way through to their third cup final. What a fantastic achievement, let’s keep it going! Captain: Curtis MOTM: Kyle Scorer: Curtis (1)
Managers Comment A battling performance today to see us through to the Police Cup final. Just as the previous week the opposition lifted their game, and the Colts had to ensure they had enough to cross the finish line. The Chiefs have proven how good they are by seeing off Bulkington twice this season and the Colts knew that any below par performance would see them exit in the same way. A great goal by Curtis today whom also showed complete respect to his ex-team mates by choosing not to celebrate his goal.. So now the Colts move on to 3 finals, a massive achievement in anyone’s books. The Chiefs also join them for one of those finals, of which we congratulate them. A great day will be had by all im sure.

9th April-St Nicolas Saints- League Cup Semi Final (A) 2-3 (W)
|
|
Just a few days after these two teams had met in the league they came together for the League Cup semi, the Colts knew they would have to work hard as cup encounters are notorious for the tables being turned. So it proved, although the Colts had an early chance when a cross from Sid found Adam, he was unable to convert the opportunity. The Saints were in gear and determined in their approach, they won a throw in and scored from the subsequent cross to nose them ahead. It was game on, but the Colts are resilient and weren’t about to let their heads drop as they set about in their attempts to level the score, Kyle was working hard in midfield supported by Adam and Sid who were keen to involve Harry who as we know can twist and turn any defence inside out and he almost got his name on the scoresheet when an intuitive lob clipped the top of the crossbar. Joe and Curtis replaced Adam and Sid and were soon into the thick of the action just as it looked as if the Saints might gain the upper hand, Joe coming in from the left hit the back of the onion bag to level. The game was to and fro, the Saints looking strong but unable to penetrate the defensive partnership of Cameron and Ewan and Danielle dealt with any shots that came her way. The Colts were looking a bit livelier as Kyle hit a shot past the post and Curtis and Joe both forced the keeper to save. HT 1-1 The Colts kicked off for the second half playing down the slope, the half started where it left off with two good teams committed to the cause as the match ebbed and flowed. Sid replaced Harry and a throw in was won, Joe created some space for himself and found the onion bag to put the Colts in front for the first time in this match. Harry came back on for Kyle and found himself battling down the flank for the ball which he won and took a snap shot, the keeper tipping the ball round the post for a corner which was cleared. Cameron was replaced by Adam and again Harry found himself with a goal scoring opportunity when his head met a cross, but this sailed over the bar. The Saints were giving the Colts a tough game and were pulling out all the stops to try and equalise but the Colts were standing firm, Curtis latched on to a pass and took the ball down the right wing before crossing into the middle, Joe headed the ball firmly past the Saints goalie and scored his hat trick as the ball entered the onion bag. The Colts seemed to have the upper hand but the Saints had other ideas and came back at the Colts and pegged one back. Kyle replaced Ewan and it was a nailbiting finish as a cracking game drew to a close. Phew, that was a close one, well played the Colts and well played the Saints who showed everyone how strong they are with an excellent team performance. FT 2-3 Captain: Adam Scorers: Joe (3) MOTM: Joe
Managers Comments: The game today was very much Cup football, all what had gone before in the League was put to one side as both teams gave their all to reach the final. The Colts were given a real game today by a full strength Saints outfit determined that they weren’t going to play second fiddle to their milby rivals anymore, and it looked like that may well be the case after the first 10 minutes, however once the Colts managed to compose themselves after the early Saint on slaught they finally started to put their foot on the ball and took control themselves. The Saints came out to attack the Colts today and much credit to them for that; however against a strike force as potent as the Colts, any gaps left at the back were soon to be punished. The Saints have had a great season under Mark, whom deserves much credit, he has strengthened his team in many areas and with more signings to come im sure the Saints will be right in the mix come next season. A Big well done to Colts for not letting their heads drop and fighting their way back to make their second final. Everyone is very proud…….Keep going.

4th April - St Nicolas Saints (A) 0-4 (W)
|
|
The Saints kicked off in this return and wasted no time in taking the game to the Colts, an early attack saw a shot sail past Danielles post. Having wrapped up the league the previous weekend, it would have been understandable if the Colts had strolled around, but they gave the Saints well earned respect and played as if the title was still in the balance. The Saints attacked again but were thwarted by Ewan and Cameron combining to shepherd the Saints player down the line where the ball ran out for a Colts throw in. This put the Colts on the offensive as Joe and Kyle linked up well which eventually resulted in a corner, Kyle sent the ball over and Curtis met it sweet as a nut.....on his nut and the Colts took the lead. The Saints weren’t phased by this though and seemed determined to peg the Colts back as they set up a series of raids that kept the defence busy, winning corners in succession. The Colts broke away from one of these and Sid was away, his first effort was well saved by the keeper who must have looked even bigger to Sid than he did to the rest of us, fortunately Sid as ever showed quick feet and still managed to tuck the rebound away. HT 0-2 The Colts started the second half and seemed to have the bit between their teeth, Harry was on by now and after Danielle had saved a Saints shot the ball was cleared out to him, he laid the ball off and took the return before clipping the top of the bar. The Colts were having to work hard to keep their lead intact and Adam was able to take the pressure off by keeping good possession as he looked for support. There were plenty of midfield tussles and the Colts benefitted from one of these as the ball ran loose to Curtis who despatched it to the back of the net. The score suggested the game was over but not before the Saints broke through again with some strong attacking play, Ewan made a solid block that was timed to perfection, the resulting counter saw Sid tuck the ball away to end the game with a flourish. FT 0-4 Captain: Danielle Scorers: Curtis (2), Sid (2) MOTM: Ewan
Managers Comment: A Great display today from the newly crowned Champions. This is the third time we have meet this season, and with the Saints close to full strength it was never going to be easy, however apart from the odd scare I thought the Colts controlled this game rather well. It maybe that the Saints had one eye on the semi-final next week and so must not be taken lightly after this result, thou im sure Mark will have them bumped up for the semi on Wednesday.
A mention for Kyle today who has been an absolute General in the middle of the park for us this season. He has played a big part in us lifting the Championship with his unselfish graft in the middle of the park, and his great vision to get things moving for us. He is a bubbly character that wears his heart on sleeve, and many of the deliveries from his set pieces this season have resulted in goals for the Colts. Kyle has been a great servant and long may it continue.
Heads up Saints and keep up the good work Colts.

29th March-Grove Farm Rangers (H) 6-0 (W)
|
|
Cameron was elected captain for the second time this season against Grove Farm who kicked off this return match. There was an air of anticipation amongst the home supporters as they knew that a win for the Colts would clinch the league title, having finished runners up in their first season. No doubt Grove Farm were keen to avenge the earlier defeat on their home turf, but it was the Colts who were showing early as Adam got on to the scoresheet when he sprung up on the left side and popped the ball home. Grove Farm had a couple of forays into the Colts half both of which resulted in corners which were successfully defended before the ball was played out of defence through midfield to Harry who promptly despatched the ball into the back of the net. The Rangers did not let their heads drop though and came back at the Colts as they had two shots on goal, Danielle saving one comfortably and tipping another round the post before winning another couple of corners, one which was headed away by Ewan and secondly when Cameron made a timely clearance before the Rangers player could make contact with the ball. The Colts pressed on and there were opportunities after Curtis put in a couple of menacing crosses, Harry with his predatory instincts was a constant threat, whilst Ewan had a shot from the edge of the box but was unfortunate to drag it wide of the post. Changes were made and Joe Sid and Kyle combined on several occasions in some incisive passages of play when Sid was unlucky to only win a corner and Harry knocked the ball past the post. HT 2-0 The Colts kicked off for the second half and picked up where they left off as Harry picked up a cross and rolled the ball wide before taking advantage a short while later and picking his spot to effectively put the game beyond the reach of the visitors. Adam returned to the play and was putting in some good work testing the Rangers defence and linking with Curtis who drove the ball into the top corner. Grove Farm were still looking to put a score on the board and counter attacked winning another corner, but it was to no avail as Adam made sure from a Colts advance to notch another one up. The game was drawing to a close when the Colts were awarded a free kick, Kyle stepped up to take it and with the wind behind him he floated the ball into the far corner of the net. The ref blew for full time and the title was won with another tenacious performance form the Colts who once again kept a clean sheet. CHAMPIONS! FT 6-0 Captain: Cameron Scorers: Adam (2), Harry (2), Curtis (1), Kyle (1) MOTM: Cameron
Well done to the whole squad, Dave and Mick, all can be rightly proud of their achievements so far and hopefully there is more to come.
Managers Comment: The Colts knew that one good performance from the last three, would see them lift the title, and they couldn’t wait to get to work today and with a nice early goal arriving the nerves were settled and a display from the champions elect was for all to see. Grove Farm battled well, and probably produced their best football when 2 down, however with the finish line in sight, the Colts moved throu the gears and were a pleasure to watch second half.
The Final whistle was blown and the Colts celebrated their First League title. A big well done to each and every player, the consistent level they have produced each and every week as now saw them lift the League Crown.
Man of the match today Cameron has had a fine season and been an absolute rock for his team mates at the back this year, Its far from easy being the managers son as im sure many managers reading this will agree, however Cameron has been great this season, being the last line of defence you can ill afford to make the wrong decision and Cameron usually always gets it right knowing when the ball needs to cleared to safety and when it can carried and passed from the back. His distribution is as good as anyone’s on the pitch and his tough tackling as been always been one of his great strengths. He has certainly made dad very proud this season. Well done mate.
The Colts will look to finish the League in style, but more importantly can now fully adjust their attentions to the Cups. Can a great season get any better……!

22nd March - St Nicolas Chiefs (A) 1-4 (W)
|
|
The Chiefs were hosting this match and kicked off playing against the wind on a draughty but bright day. There two sides tested each other out before the Colts, playing in their white away shirts, started to put a couple of chances together, firstly with a long range effort from the left side which the wind helped to take it way over the bar. The Chiefs were looking to advance as they played through midfield when their move broke down and Kyle hit an unaccustomed left foot shot, the goalie did well to save but was only able to parry the ball and Joe was on hand to slot the ball into the onion bag to open the scoring. The game saw some nice passages of play with both teams playing a passing game that belied their tender years. One Chiefs attack saw Cameron control the ball before laying a pass out to Joe who moved the ball swiftly on to Sid, he let a shot go only to see the keeper turn the ball round the post for a Colts corner, which their opponents easily cleared. The Chiefs weren’t getting much change out of Ewan or Cameron who once again protected their keeper with poise, they did came close on a couple of occasions but were unable to breach Danielles goalkeeping defences. The Colts were trying to make the most of the wind advantage by shooting when they had sight of the goal, winning another two corners, but were unable to press home their chances. Harry came on for Adam and immediately got involved in the game, shortly after his appearance he was prominent in a goalmouth tussle before the ball broke to Sid who drove the ball home to double the Colts score. HT 0-2 The Colts re-started the game playing up the slight slope but against the wind and it seemed to the watching crowd that they might do well to hold on to their lead. The team had other ideas though as Joe rampaged up the left before swinging the ball into the middle of the box where Harry clinically finished the move as he swept the ball into the net. There’s no doubt the Chiefs are a good footballing side and they proved this as they came back at the Colts and won a corner which was successfully headed out by Ewan. The Colts counter attacked, but were under some pressure from the Chiefs who were now trying to exploit the wind advantage they had in this half and were working to turn the tables. Their efforts paid off when they managed to pull one back, it was an unusual sight this season to see Danielle pick the ball out of the net. The Colts were having to resist the Chiefs charges and when the ball ran loose on the Colts right side they could have been caught out until Ewan got across the pitch and made a tremendous tackle to snuff out the threat. The game was drawing to a close when Harry in an advanced position played in Adam who took his opportunity and finished the game with aplomb to match the score from the previous encounter between the two teams. Well played the Chiefs and the Colts, this was an entertaining game played by two quality sides. FT 1-4 Captain: Kyle Scorers: Joe (1), Sid (1), Harry (1), Adam (1) MOTM: Joe
Managers Comments: In difficult conditions, today was all about making sure we left with all 3 points thus keeping our title dreams alive, with the wind blowing a gale towards one goal, it was important that the Colts used the early advantage and went into the break with something to show and that’s what we managed to do, and with the killer 3rd coming right from the restart it was always going to be a big ask for the chiefs to turn it around. The Colts were warned before kick-off that despite some in different results of late the Chiefs were more than capable of turning the tables on their Milby counterparts and with the second half wind behind their sails the chiefs fully deserved their goal as they pinned the Colts back in their half. It has been a bit of bumpy ride this season for the chiefs, and it’s great to see the togetherness of this bunch of lads and this put together with the undoubtable talent they have on the pitch im sure will see them in good stead for the future, with them still in both internal cups and riding well in the league they can certainly hold their heads up high. Good luck Chiefs.
A Mention today for Joe who as been an absolute breath of fresh air for the Colts. He joined the Colts shortly before the start of the season and as been a revelation ever since. He is a bubbly character that manages to put a smile on my face every time he talks to me, and added to that in my opinion he has the sweetest left foot in the League. Joe has certainly added some fire power to the Colts attack this season and what pleases me most about Joe is that he always seems to make the right decision on when to pass and shoot, and despite having such a great left peg he’s never selfish with it either. All in all a great team player and this speaks volumes as to why he has settled in so well with the Colts.

8th March-Tamworth Cup Semi Final. Amington Diamonds (H) 1-1 aet (3-2 on pens)
|
|
Having made the short journey down the A5 for this semi final between two table topping teams, the Diamonds kicked off in what turned out to be an enthralling game. It was clear from the start that these two were evenly matched and this was going to be a tough encounter that was likely to go to the wire. We weren’t disappointed in what turned out to be a physical game as the Diamonds tried to out muscle the Colts, an early midfield push left the defence exposed, Amington took their chance and slotted the ball past Danielle to take an early lead. As the Colts pressed to try and level the score, Amington broke through again and forced a corner which was cleared. Another attack saw the tricky number 8 power up the Colts right side, Ewan refused to be knocked out of his stride as he matched his man for strength, making a terrific tackle and taking some studs to the head as they tumbled to the ground. Cameron came on and continued the excellent defensive work maintaining a solid base for the midfield dynamos to chase and hassle their opponents as the Colts started to put their game together and show their opponents that this wasn’t going to be easy for them. Adam received a pass and had a powerful shot saved by the big goalie as the Colts were setting out their intentions. Although Amington were a physical side and obviously difficult to beat, it was a surprise that a couple of their players went to ground so easily when tackled, but the Colts showed their resilience yet again and a great knock in from Kyle saw the goalie drop the ball at Harry’s feet and he was unlucky not to hit the target from a short distance. Amington bustled their way through again only to be denied by Danielle before Cam put in a great tackle that stopped their striker in his tracks. HT 0-1 The Colts re-started the game and it was clear to the home support that the pendulum could swing in their favour as the Diamonds keeper could only beat out Kyles free kick. Harry was getting into some great positions and combined well with Sid who was having a great game getting his foot in on the ball and dragging his opposite number out of position. Amington came back again and won another corner but were unable to capitalise on their opportunity, the ball was played out from defence and found Sid who turned one man before advancing and laying a pass off to Kyle who in turn fed Harry who didn’t hesitate as he levelled the score. The game was attack and counter attack, another shot from Kyle was again beaten out by the keeper for a corner before the Diamonds attacked again forcing Danielle to save. They finished strongly winning a couple of corners before the ref blew for full time and we all looked to extra time. FT 1-1 Extra time ended in stalemate and the game went to penalties, the best of three then sudden death. Amingtons goalie took the first pen and coolly drove the ball past Danielle. Kyle was first up for the Colts and scored to put the pressure back on them. They scored and Adam stepped up to keep the scores at 2-2, they couldn’t put their third penalty away but nor could Harry, a good effort though. The number 8 stepped up and Danielle made the save (she’s good at pens!), he even tried two rebounds and still couldn’t put the ball in, not that they would have counted. Next up was Sid who drove the ball with power and at shoulder height giving the keeper not a chance. The Colts were through to the Final at the Lamb, what a terrific team performance from every single one of them that made us all rightly proud.
Captain: Harry. Scorers: Harry (1).
Penalties: Kyle (1), Adam (1), Sid (1).
MOTM: The whole team!
Well done everyone, good luck for the Final, enjoy the day!!
Managers Comment: The Colts showed real character today to come back from being a goal down. The most pleasing bit for me was the way that every player dug so deep into their reserve tanks and produced a performance full of hunger and desire but despite being so tired after the extra time still managed to show ample composure to finish their penalty kicks so well. The Colts had been working on their penalty’s over recent training sessions as when you get to the latter stage’s of any cup, there is always a chance it may come down to this, but I could not have asked for a serious of such well taken kicks, and Danielle yet again showed what a class act she is between the sticks, saving two of Amington`s kicks. To many heroes out their today to mention, just so great to see kids and adults alike getting so much enjoyment from this great sport. It really was grassroots at its best. Amington are a great team, and showed why they currently top the Tamworth North league, and if they take a point from their next game , then the disappointment from this game will I’m sure be exchanged with the jubilation of lifting their respective League title. We really wish you the very best of luck in this, thou with the quality that I saw today i don’t really think they will need the Luck. All the best Lads.
The Colts now get a great away day out in May, when they will appear in their first Cup final, something I’m sure players and parents will really look forward to, .however now its time to focus our attentions back on the League and ensure all the hard work we have put in up to this stage, doesn’t go to waste.…..Keep going Colts…. and Well done to all, the management are very very proud.

2nd March-Saints (A) Police Cup Quarter Final 0-2 (W)
|
|
The Colts kicked off in their change strip of white shirts against their local rivals the Saints for this quarter final clash at Milby. The previous encounter this season between these two teams had been back in September when the Colts comprehensively outplayed their opponents during a league game. This cup game turned out to be a lot tighter although the Colts had some early opportunities that they were unable to capitalise on. Sid playing on the right wing and Joe on the left, were both combining well with Harry with some neat interplay which saw the Colts have a couple of shots that didn’t trouble the goalie but showed that they could pass their way round the back of the Saints defence. One move started as Kyle broke up a Saints attack in midfield and knocked the ball on to Joe who out paced a couple of Saints defenders before laying the ball on to Harry who slotted the ball neatly beyond the goalie to put the first score on the board. This seemed to spur the Saints on who were now starting to threaten but each time were snuffed out by Ewan and Cameron who were again looking solid and were giving sound protection for Danielle in goal. The Saints won a couple of corners and these were whipped into the danger area with pace, Danielle tipping one inswinger on to the bar before the ball ran out of play, the ref not detecting the goalies deft touch and awarding a goal kick to the Colts. HT 0-1 The Saints re-started the tie but did not seem to make much headway as the Colts wing play was keeping them on their defensive toes, an attack down the right flank resulted in Adam getting in a shot on goal. Another attack followed and this time Curtis was on hand to beat the goalie to put the Colts two up. Some substitutions saw the defenders replaced and the Colts seemed to lose their shape, the Saints having two very close chances on goal. Sid worked tirelessly in this game, working the line when on the offensive and always willing to get a foot in and chase when the Colts were on the defensive. FT 0-2
Captain: Joe MOTM: Sid Scorers: Harry (1), Curtis (1)
Managers Comments: Difficult for me to some up this performance today. I thought we played some lovely pretty football at times that probably deserved a few more goals, however our final ball was lacking at times and it felt we were stuck in second gear for much of the game., much credit should be given to our opponents thou who despite missing a couple of their key members rallied well and battled for every ball thus frustrating the Colts at every opportunity. Two great goals today a lovely finish from Harry and a vintage Curtis pile driver into the top corner. The Saints entered this season looking to stay up but have really taken the league by storm, and with a strong finish to the season, the prize for them could well involve silverware. We wish them well. A mention today for Sid whom im sure has one of the biggest engine rooms in the league. Sid will work his socks off covering the pitch end to end providing the attack with numerous assists and within the blink of eye he can be getting that all important tackle in at the back. He takes everything in and never complains about what he’s asked do. He is also leading the way with his communication skills on the pitch, as only last week I heard a voice from the Colts shout out `come on lads lets lift it` and as I lifted my head in such delight at hearing someone talking on the pitch, there was Sid clapping his hands trying to give his team mates a lift. I think that says it all.

The Eagles turned up at Milby no doubt keen to get their revenge following the earlier encounter when the Colts won convincingly on the Eagles home turf. The Colts kicked off and wasted no time as they were immediately on the offensive with a couple of attacks ending in tame shots on goal. The Eagles had a determined look about them as they tried to counter the Colts, they brought a big team over who must have been training in grow bags as most of them seemed to tower over the home side. This seasons Colts though are more than a match for most teams they come up against regardless of any opponents size or ability. Danielle had very little to do between the sticks in the first half as Cameron and Ewan were snuffing out any potential threats. Kyle playing in the middle with Adam to his left and Curtis on the right were able to build on the solid foundations with Joe prowling up front itching to get his left foot on to the ball. It wasn’t long before the Colts got their reward when Kyle who seems to be involved in most things, laid the ball off to Curtis who drilled the ball into the net to open the scoring. The Eagles didn’t let their heads drop at going behind and were repelling the Colts, Sid and Harry replaced Adam and Joe, this seemed to give the Colts fresh impetus with both players looking sharp. They were soon both into their stride as Harry controlled a ball out from Kyle before laying the ball off to Curtis who zipped the ball past the goalie to double the Colts lead. Half time was fast approaching when Cameron made a tremendous tackle and dropped a short pass off to Sid out on the left touchline, Sid battled well to repulse the Eagles tackles and played the ball forward to Harry who was very lively. Harry took the ball on and slid it past the keeper from a tight angle to ensure the Colts went into the break with a comfortable lead. HT 3-0 The Colts were playing against the slope in the second half, but this made no difference as they continued to play their game, some of the inter play was pleasant to watch and in truth meant that it would be very hard for the Eagles to get anything out of this game. So it proved to be as Adams nimble feet on the right wing skipped round the Eagles defence releasing the ball to Harry who finished with his left boot to increase the lead. To their credit the Eagles were still plugging away but were unable to get any change out of the defence, Cameron again putting in a strong challenge to break up one of their counter attacks. Kyle and then Joe returned after a short break on the touchline and were seeing plenty of the ball as the passing was coming together. Ewan read a through pass and intercepted the ball, knocking a pass out to Sid who was on his toes before sliding the ball into the impressive Harry who tucked it away at the second attempt to complete his hat trick. The defence duo were replaced soon after and the Eagles almost pulled one back when an attack down their right resulted in a shot that fizzed just past the post. The Eagles were tiring however and towards the end the Colts won a corner that Joe tapped into the onion bag to round the game off. FT 6-0

Managers Comment. A great team performance today with some lovely passing moves opening our opponents up and the finishing practice from our previous days training seemed to pay dividends as well. The Colts now seem to be getting back into their stride , having come throu the stop start month of January which as seen a number of fixtures fall victim to the weather. Amington our opponents in the semi also sent their scouts out for this encounter, and hopefully we showed them it will not be an easy passage throu to the Tamworth final. A mention today for Curtis and Harry. Curtis is settling nicely and had his best game in a Colt shirt today, he`s adapted well and showed to all what a good player and clinical finisher he can be. with out doubt he will prove to be a fine asset to this team. Harry who as been throu a mini goal drought of late, did what every good striker who goes throu this situation does, `dump the old boots and come out with shinny new pair of bobby Nike dazzlers` and he followed it up with a performance that shows why i regard him as one of best strikers in this league. His vision and unselfishness are a real asset and his first goal today was truly vintage Harry, and showed that he is striker that means business. Bedworth left with nothing, but are great bunch with a good manager, and i`m sure they have what it takes to beat the drop. Good Luck.

3rd February-League Cup, Bulkington Bullets (H) 4-0 (W)
|
|
For the third game in a row, the Colts were pitting their wits against the Bullets in this League Cup encounter. Having come out on top in the two previous occasions when the Bullets proved to be difficult opponents, the Colts knew that they would have to be on their toes and work hard if they were to be successful again. They had a good start to the game with a couple of energetic forays into the Bullets half and had a couple of half chances that they were unable to capitalise on. The Bullets were looking to push on but were caught out when Ewan anticipated a pass and muscled his way in front of the attacker to intercept the ball and advance a yard before laying the ball through the middle for Joe who was playing up front. Joe slipped past a defender before hitting a crisp shot that the goalie got a touch to as it hit the roof of the onion bag to put the Colts ahead. There followed what seemed to be a sustained period of play where the Bullets were moving the ball well down their right wing and having lots of possession in the Colts half which resulted in a series of corners, each one robustly defended. The danger was eventually cleared as Cameron knocked the ball out to Sid who turned a Bullets player as he switched play to Adam, his low left foot shot was directed at the keeper. The Colts were back in charge and won a throw in which found Kyle, a languid shot deceived everyone as it rolled past the goalie to double the Colts lead. The Bullets came back but their attack was thwarted as they had two corners in a row. Harry had come on soon after this and a typical mazy run came to an end when the goalie saved his shot, Adam in support drilled the rebound into the net to give the Colts a comfortable lead at the break. HT 3-0 The Colts were not going to lose their grasp of the game as two shots within the first five minutes of the re-start signalled that there would be no coming back for the Bullets To be fair they had been unlucky in previous games as the scorelines had not really reflected the contribution they had made in those entertaining and keenly contested matches. They were not found entirely wanting this time either, although the game was effectively over they still plugged away but found the Colts to be the immovable object as they gave very little away. They still had an opportunity though in one attack but again Ewan blocked the shot for a corner, leaving Danielle with a quiet morning between the sticks as despite their good spells the Bullets were unable to trouble our keeper. The Colts made some changes and as the game was drawing to a close Curtis stooped low and put his head on to a corner ball to finish the match with a final flourish. FT 4-0

Managers Comment The Colts got off to a flyer today and never looked back, with the opposition now knowing our game quiet well ,. The Colts were asked to raise the bar today and show our opposition just why we top the league and with that in mind the Colts moved straight into top gear and virtually put this game beyond doubt after the first 10. The Bullets did enjoy a number of corners in one spell and it was particular pleasing to see the defensive discipline throughout the team in defending these set pieces The Bullets to their credit came back from their half time team talk determined to make a fist of things and battled well second half, but the Colts stood firm and despite still creating some good opportunities only managed to add the single second half. A mention for the Silent assassin (Ewan) at the back who read the game quiet beautiful today and who’s distribution from the back is always a corner stone to build any attack on. He showed a quiet brilliant piece of defending today with a great last ditch tackle that if not timed to perfection surely would have saw the Colts concede. A well deserved man of the match today. The Bullets are great set of lads whom play the game in the correct manner, Leon I’m sure will get them firing throu the remainder of the season and im sure we’ll be seeing them again in the top division next season.

27th January-Bulkington Bullets (H) 2-0 (W)
|

a welcome return to action for the Colts after an enforced layoff due to the weather. Their last opponents were the Bullets whom they knocked out of the Police Cup and as fate would have it the Bullets were the opponents again . This time it was the bread and butter of the league and for the Colts the chance to put some more points on the board. Considering the amount of rain that had fallen, the conditions underfoot were surprisingly good and with a mild sun brightening the morning up it was game on. The Colts had a couple of half chances on goal when a shot was collected by the goalie and another that ran past the post. By and large the first half was stalemate, the Bullets restricted to one chance only when a cross from the right sailed dangerously across the face of the goal which led to a corner, but by then the danger had passed. HT 0-0 Team talk over and it was back to business, each player was working hard, they were tight in defence whilst midfield were running the middle of the park, up front was always on the look out for a sniff at goal. A Bullets attack was intercepted and the ball delivered into space, as the Bullets player tried to deal with the loose ball he was put under pressure and had the ball whipped away from his toes, the resulting left foot shot ended up in the onion bag as it squeezed between the post and goalie. The Colts were now driving the game in their usual resilient style and had a period of the game when they won a succession of corners knocked into the box. The Bullets were able to defend these before counter attacking, only to find the defence too strong and alert for them as their efforts were solidly repulsed. The Colts were using the wings to good effect and a pacey run down the right followed with a shot that resembled an exocet as the ball rocketed goalwards, the goalie managed a save but such was the ferocity of the shot he could only beat the ball into a danger area and the ball was tucked away to make the game safe for the Colts. FT 2-0 Captain: Sid Scorers: Joe (1), Sid (1) MOTM: Adam
Managers Comment: The Bullets came to Milby with a clear battle plan today, and that was not to leave for home empty handed and they really made the Colts work very hard for the 3 points. The Colts had a couple of clear chances first half and on another day they would have headed into the second half with some breathing space, but credit must be given to the bullets whose constant battling ensured they entered the second half all square. The opening goal was with out doubt the turning point , and saw a much needed rush of confidence run throu the Colts thus seeing them move throu the gears, and as the game finally started to open up it was just a matter of time until the all important second arrived A mention today for Adam whom always seems to produce the goods against the bullets, and in particular listened to what was required of him and matched it with great midfield play both going forward and coming back today.
The Bullets gave the Colts an almighty run for their money today and if they maintain this level for the remainder of the season, thou will undoubtedly be safe. We look forward to welcoming the Bullets back again next week for the 4th Time this season and with them improving every time we play them, im sure we are in for another blockbuster of a game.

6th January 2008-Police Cup Bulkington Bullets (A) 0-4 (W)
|
|
The first game back after the Christmas break saw the Colts drawn away to Bulkington Bullets in the Police Cup. There was an overnight frost but the pitch was surprisingly soft as both teams ran out eager to get the lungs working. The Bullets made the first foray into the Colts half, but their advance was halted as the Colts gained possession and sought to make inroads into their opponents, they proceeded to take the game to them with a series of raids down both wings with Adam and Harry combining well. Newcomer Curtis was also involved forcing a save from the keeper. The Bullets were keen to make their mark aswell but were unable to penetrate the defence of Cameron and Ewan whilst Danielle in goal seemed to have all angles covered, Kyle providing the link between defence and attack. The Colts won the first corner of the game the resulting ball into the box was knocked over the bar for a goal kick. The Bullets came back at the Colts, the move was broken down by Kyle who fed the ball to Harry who slipped a pass out wide to Adam. Harry pushed on into the box ready for a return ball, Adam played the ball in which took a deflection off the defender and past his keeper into the net to put the first score on the board. Adam and Curtis were replaced by Sid and Joe and within what seemed the blink of an eye, great work by Harry saw Sid turn the ball into the Bullets goal with an effort that looped over the goalie. A second corner followed for the Colts before the break. HT 0-2 The Colts re-started following the half time team talk, resisting the Bullets who were working hard to get a score up but without really troubling Danielle although they came close on a couple of occasions. Joe was getting into his stride and as a Bullets corner was robustly defended, the ball broke to Joe who ran virtually the length of the pitch and had he spotted the goalie off his line earlier he would surely have slotted the ball home with the goalie stranded. He was integral to the Colts next goal though as he exchanged decisive passes with Harry down the left flank before H crossed for Curtis to notch his first for the Colts. Still the Bullets persevered but the Colts were just too resilient for them on the day as Joe proved when he collected the ball from a throw in and slotted home, the ball nestling in the onion bag to put the Colts through to the next round. FT 0-4
Captain: Danielle MOTM: Harry Scorers: o.g (1), Sid (1), Curtis (1), Joe (1)
Managers Comment: With the Colts having a very important month ahead with some very tricky fixtures, it was important we returned from the festive break in positive fashion and this game was exactly the sort of fixture the Colts needed against a battling Bullets outfit. This wasn’t a classic performance today by any means and on a pitch still thawing and difficult to play on against a well organised team that have shown in recent weeks they are cable of matching the top teams it was never the less a job well done. Having conceded in our last two outings it was great to see the back 3 keeping the door firmly closed and starting the New Year off with a clean sheet. It was also great to see new signing Curtis open his account for the Colts with a strong performance and a good finish from some lovely build up play by his new team mates. So a good positive start that should hopefully set us on the right track throu this interesting month of fixtures.
It’s a Bulkington Month for Colts with us having to play the Bullets another twice and the Braves all within the next four weeks, and the prize for wining throu the cup is game against one our sister team (The Saints) who we also play next week. Not much variety in fixtures their then.

Tamworth Cup 8th December-Weddington Lions (A) 1-3 (W)
|
|
The conditions weren’t brilliant for this Tamworth Cup Quarter Final, but the performance the Colts put in for this tie was exceptional as they took the game to their opponents right from the off dominating the first ten minutes. With the rain lashing down on a freezing cold morning in Weddington, they soon had the spectators warmed up in a game that seemed to have everything, resilience, quality, heart, and plenty of action at both ends of the pitch. If anything was lacking it was dry paper for the reporter to write on, a strong wind putting a few brollies to the test as well! This was a tough game against a team who had the better of the Colts in three previous encounters and who had taken the league title last season. Both teams had their chances but it was the Colts who broke the deadlock with a flowing move as they passed their way through the Lions team. They counter attacked with a swift passing move as Ewan played the ball out from the back to Harry who turned on the proverbial sixpence and looked up to see Joe available on the left, Joe sensed something could be on as he attacked the defence before squaring the ball into the box for Sid to slot home. Weddington came back as expected but the midfield were defiant and gave very little away, wining most tackles and releasing the ball forward at every opportunity. The Lions had pace up front though which kept the defence busy and this finally unlocked the Colts as they levelled the score. It didn’t last, as the reporter was desperately trying to squeeze some ink out of his pen the restart saw the ball played to Joe who weaved his magic before clipping the ball low in to the onion bag to nose the Colts ahead again. Weddy had their chances but came up against Danielle in goal who was determined to keep all at bay with a terrific display of keeping that Gordon Banks would be proud of. HT 1-2 The second half saw the Lions with more possession than they had in the first period, but the Colts playing as a unit repelled their advances. There’s no denying the Colts rode their luck on a couple of occasions as their opponents hit the post and the cross bar, but they have a steely determination that’s as good as having another player on the pitch, the ground they cover and work rate is second to none and every player must take credit for their application to each game. Kyle and Adam were tireless, Cameron came on in the second half and was rock solid, the Colts had their second half chances as well as they constantly worked the Lions. Adam displayed his energy when the Weddy goalie fumbled the ball as it got held up in a goalmouth puddle and Adam appeared like a rocket to poke the ball over the line to give his team a cushion that never looked likely to be dented after this, the Colts playing their way through to the Semi Final. This was a cracking game of football played in difficult conditions and both sets of players should be credited for their performance. FT 1-3
Scorers: Sid (1), Joe (1), Adam (1) MOTM: Danielle
Managers Comment. The Colts went into this encounter taking plenty of confidence from their recent league form and the knowledge from their last encounter with the Lions that they were more than capable of turning the tables on their Weddington counterparts. A look across the sidelines saw the opposition manager psyching his players up, but the Colts were undeterred and they took to the stage knowing they all had the tools to enter the Lions den and leave with all the spoils via the passage to the next round and that’s exactly what they did with a performance full of desire that every Colt raised the bar for and each played an invaluable part of their own.
The weather was dreadful but both teams produced some wonderful football full of all the passion that you would expect from a Cup tie, but this time the tables were fully turned and it was the Colts finding the back of the net and the Lions squandering their chances and this time it was the Colts turn to leave the Lions Den with smiles on their faces.
The Lions are a top quality outfit make no bones about it and going forward they are real hand full. We wish them well for the rest of their campaign. The Colts have now raised their game as last season we were gulity of not finding the net when it really mattered, however the team have worked hard and progressed well and are now showing they can score goals against the tops teams. I’m sure the Lions will return to the Nuneaton League to try to take their revenge, but the Colts have answered a good view of their critics today and showed those that thought all they had to do was turn up to win this game.
A great game of U9 football well done to all….and also well done to ref who played his part and was always looking to see if there was an advantage and letting the game flow before having to pull it back….

2nd December-Bedworth Utd (A) 1-9 (W)
|
|
The Match Of The Day commentator always mentions the poor weather as being a great leveller for teams, but this wasn’t the case when this re-match occurred. The ground was sopping wet and some spectators were desperately seeking shelter from the rain before the start of this one. Despite the Colts playing uphill in the first half any concerns were soon swept away by another solid away performance as they proved they were just too strong for Bedworth United. The first half saw the defenders with very little to do as the Colts pushed on with a forceful passing game that outfoxed their opponents on a pitch that was very wet and as someone found out slippery too, ‘she fell over’ was the loud chorus in the pre match warm up as one man hit the deck. Fortunately the team managed to keep their feet as well as their heads showing composure at all times as they knocked up a score big enough to ensure that Bedworth would be unable to get back into the game in the second period.
HT 0-5
The second half was a repeat of the first, the Colts notching another four goals before the end although Bedworth did peg one back. Credit to the home team who did not give up despite being outplayed by the Colts for the second time this season.
FT 1-9
Captain: Joe Scorers: Harry (4), Adam (3), Joe (1), Sid (1) MOTM: Harry
Managers Comment: After the rain had given this pitch a good hammering and then the game before had turned some area`s into a complete mud path , I was little concerned going into this one, however the Colts who had played a tournament earlier in the year in similar conditions, showed all the lessons learn`t from such muddy conditions. The football they produced on this surface was quiet simply breath taking at times, passing the ball around so cleverly and using the area’s of the pitch which were in much better condition. It was probably the easiest half time talk I have ever given, with the request of `just carry on as you are`. A lot of credit to Bedworth who kept battling away and deserved their goal, it wasn’t that Bedworth were poor today, but more the fact they just caught the Colts at the top of their game. Good luck to Bedworth for the remainder of the season and let’s hope the Colts can carry this form through to their Tamworth Cup Quarter-final match next week.

18th November-Attleborough (H) 12-0 (W)
|
|
It’s on....it’s off.....no it’s on again.......the match that is, not the proposed night out at the Wing Wah! It looked like the game might not go ahead but Attleborough turned out albeit with not quite a full complement. It was a cold day, so much so that even the brass monkeys were lagging each other, a pair of mitts wouldn’t have been out of place for the match reporter, unfortunately senility had set in and the gloves were left at home and frost bite beckoned. With a brisk wind blowing freezing rain around the slippery surface, the Colts were eager to get this one over with and set to their task in their usual fashion. They were too strong for the opposition and after a couple of early corners combined with some saves from the opposing keeper, it was Sid who opened the scoring. Joe was next as he rasped the ball into the onion bag, these scores were followed up with Harry, Sid twice again and a hat trick from Adam to see the first half out. HT8-0 The second period was a continuation of the first, the Colts in complete control, though credit must go to Attleborough who showed character and whose goalie saved them from conceding a bigger score. Adam scored another two whilst Joe weighed in with one in this half too. Ewan was given a late run up front and doubled his seasons tally as he scored his second of the season. There was relief all round when the ref blew the final whistle and the spectators were able to dash off and sit in the oven with the Sunday roast to warm up. FT 12-0
Captain: Kyle Scorers: Sid (3), Joe (2), Adam (5), Ewan (1), Harry (1) MOTM: Adam
This was probably the worst conditions that the Colts have played in to date and to their credit, despite not being able to feel their fingers and toes they coped very well indeed. It was great to see the team spirit at half time with the players that were really struggling with the cold being offered gloves and hats from players that felt they were copping ok…..It really did show the togetherness of this unit. Attleborough battled hard and despite being down by double figures, still worked hard for the cause.
The half way mark for the season has now been reached, and each and every Colt should be proud of their performances to date, the second half of the season is always a lot harder with the conditions coming into play so much more, It will be a great test for the Colts to try a match the performances from the first half of the season with the second half, however I sure if we can stay injury free and healthy we will be in the mix come April. Good luck Colts

11th November, League Cup Nuneaton Borough Blue (H) 3-0 (W)
|
|
The Colts were back on home territory for their second cup game of the weekend, this time it was Nuneaton Borough Blue they were entertaining in this League Cup clash. The guests looked to be a tricky team and had some big players, the Colts would have to be on their toes if they wanted to get through to the next round. They didn’t disappoint as they once again showed their tenacity and determination combined with a powerful midfield, solid defence and unflappable goalie. The two sides were weighing each other up before Sid pumped in a cross from the right that Harry turned in to the net to put the Colts 1-0 up. Harry later hit the bar following a throw in and a long range shot from Kyle saw the goalie put the ball out for a corner. The goalie was soon to make a good double save from Harry before Ewan saw a shot blocked. The Borough were putting some nice moves together and with the strength of a couple of their bigger players they were causing a threat, fortunately Danielle was playing to her usual high standard in goal and was equal to anything the Borough sent her way. It was after one of her saves and as Borough were coming again that Cameron put in a strong challenge and the ball found its way to Joe, a mazy run and resulting shot that seemed to take a slight deflection saw the ball turned into the onion bag to double the Colts lead. HT 2-0 The second half was a replay of the first, the score perhaps not quite reflecting the Boroughs play, but still the Colts took the game to their opponents as Adam and Harry brought the ball away from a Borough corner and stretched their defence winning a corner themselves from this rapid counter attack. Ewans shot on goal was saved before the Borough came on strong again forcing Danielle to make a great save when they really should have scored. The Colts replied with interest as Kyle intercepted a Borough corner before threading the ball through to Harry who rounded the keeper before stroking the ball in to the net to put the game out of reach. To their credit the Borough didn’t let their heads drop but the defence proved altogether too strong for them, although Danielle was still forced to make a save at the foot of the post.
FT 3-0 Captain: Ewan Scorers: Harry (2), Joe (1) MOTM: Danielle
Managers Comment: Colts edged their way through this tricky first round encounter against a physical Boro team that is currently full of confidence and showing they are more than ready to step up a league next season. The Colts needed to dig deep at times today and make sure that they matched their counterparts in the tackle, and that’s just what they did. However has the game wore on the overall strength of this big boro unit did start to come throu, but with our very own Wonder woman in goal producing another faultless display and adding to that one of the best saves I have seen at this level for quiet a while, the boro were to leave frustrated from Milby and the Competition . So a good weekend for the Colts who moved forward in two cup Competitions against two teams both topping their respective leagues. Good luck to the Boro`s U9`s and good luck to Nuneaton’s first team as well for the rest of this season. Well done Colts….

10th November -Tamworth Cup, Glascote Rangers (A) 1-2 (W)
|
|
The Colts kicked off this 6 a side Tamworth Cup draw on their opponents home turf. The first half saw the Colts with plenty of possession and some early forays into the Rangers half and gaining yardage through a succession of throw ins. They were looking strong and playing down the slope seemed to have a slight advantage although Glascote had some first half chances that were collected neatly by Sid keeping goal. Harry was constantly nagging away at their defence strongly supported by tireless midfield running from Kyle, Adam and Joe with a powerful Cameron bringing up the rear and who was playing with a definite “they shall not pass” attitude. A Colts move saw Adam link up with Joe who laid the ball on to Harry who left two Glascote players in his wake before placing the ball low into the corner of the net with his left foot. Glascote had a free kick which they lifted over the defensive wall only to see Sid make the save. HT 0-1 Ewan replaced Cameron for the second half, this also saw Glascotes first half goalie move up front which seemed to give them more movement and a more mobile threat. The Colts continued to press when they created the chances but Glascote were getting a foot hold on the game and shortly after the Colts were awarded a penalty which was saved by the keeper, they attacked down the left, two players combining well before slotting the ball home to even the score. The game continued with end to end play and some strong football from both sides, some spectators were contemplating the prospect of extra time when a Colts throw in from the left in the Rangers half was dropped on to Joes left peg, the rest is history as he pumped the ball high towards the Glascote goal before it dropped over the goalie and nestled gently in the back of the onion bag. FT 1-2 Captain: Harry Scorers: Harry (1), Joe (1) MOTM: Cameron
Managers Comment: This was certainly a strong test for the Colts with Glascote currently going well in their Division. The Colts adapted well to the 6 aside format and the passing from defence to attack that created the opening goal was most pleasing. Glascote responded well second half and showed us just why they currently top their league , but it was Joe who as added an extra dimension to the Colts strike force this season that once again wave that magical left peg of his and saw us throu to the quarters. A quick mention to Sid who went between the sticks for us today and proved just what a versatile team player he really his. Glascote were a very warm and friendly crowd and a have a great bunch of players to go with it and the Tea table certainly went down well with the Colts Followers. We wish them all the best in their race of the Eastern Championship…….Good Luck Lads…

4th November-Bedworth Eagles (A) 0-7 (W)
|
|
Bedworth Eagles v Colts A foggy start in Nuneaton saw the Colts arrive at their destination with the sun breaking through on a pitch that was heavy with overnight dew. The Colts were slow into their stride as the Eagles had the better of the early exchanges, advancing down the left before sending in a low shot that didn’t quite have the legs to trouble Danielle in goal. It was several minutes before the Colts were able to stretch their legs properly with shots coming in from the midfield trio of Adam, Kyle and Joe, Harry contributing up front with an effort on goal. The team were able to exert some pressure as the defence of Cameron and Ewan were strong enough to thwart most of the Eagles front running before passing the ball out wide to set the Colts on the attack. It was from one of these positions that the Colts opened the scoring as Harrys right wing run saw him knock the ball in to Joe who tapped the ball on to Adam who finished with a clinical strike. A substitution soon after saw Sid replace Adam and his attack down the right touchline was decisive as he crossed for Joe to slide the ball in to put the Colts 2-0 up. It was looking like the Colts were beginning to wake up from their early slumber and this was re-enforced by Harry as he chipped the ball into the far corner of the net following tenacious work from Sid. HT 0-3 The second half saw the Eagles on the attack but again Cameron and Ewan broke down their advances and were releasing the ball to the midfield where a series of raids were launched and earning the Colts a number of successive corners. Adams high ball in from the left saw Sid nip in like a whippet at the back post and lash the ball into the roof of the net. Another goal followed soon after when Sid linked up with Kyle before the latter laid the ball on for Adam to get his second of the day, finishing with a cool left foot. More strikes were to follow as Sid scored with a stooping header before he notched up his hat trick by sweeping the ball into the onion bag after combining well again with Kyle. The Eagles tried to get something out of the game but some great defensive tackling ensured that Danielle would be keeping a clean sheet. FT 0-7
Captain: Danielle Scorers: Sid (3), Adam (2), Harry (1), Joe (1) MOTM: Sid
Managers Comment: Bedworth to their credit battled hard and were more than a match for the Colts in the opening 10, however the introduction of Sid to this match seemed to be the turning point for the Colts as he took the game by the scruff of the neck (and also refound his scoring boots) , and in doing this gave his team mates a massive boost which seemed to rub off on the lads and it wasn’t long before normal service was resumed from the Colts attacking unit. Some great distribution from our back two today , as they showed their passing abilities moving the ball around the park very nicely at times. Bedworth have a great Coach in Adam ,who I know is working hard with his lads and I`m sure it won’t be long before they start to turn their season around. We wish them all the best for the remainder of the season. The Colts now take a nice distraction form league action as they look to progress on with the Tamworth Cup and League Cup……Good Luck Colts….

28th October 2007 - St Nicolas Chiefs (H) 4-1 (W)
|
|
Colts v Chiefs There was an air of anticipation as the Chiefs kicked off against the Colts who were sitting top of the league, it was the first time these two teams had met in league competition. The Colts had to defend early on as the Chiefs pushed forward and won an early corner, the resulting header giving the Colts possession with a goal kick. The Colts were playing downhill in the first half and were soon to take full advantage, a throw in saw Joe take the ball down the right before sending over a cross that Sid (captain for the day) headed over the bar. Like a top darts player shooting for the double to finish, this move was the marker for what was to follow next. Cameron and Ewan broke down a Chiefs move and the ball found Joe who picked the ball up in midfield and dribbled his way through the Chiefs midfield and defence before slotting the ball past the keeper for a superb solo opening score. The following passage of play saw the two sides test each other out and the Chiefs had a shot on goal which was comfortably gathered by “safe hands” Danielle. The Colts were moving the ball with pace and the midfield trio of Sid, Kyle and Adam were not allowing the Chiefs to settle on the ball, all three displaying tremendous energy and commitment that was to stand the Colts in good stead for the remainder of this match. The referee gave a free kick to the Colts in their opponents half for a push, Kyle whipped in one of his usual testers for the goalie and as the ball dropped Joe leapt on to it like a salmon and flipped the ball in to the net to put the Colts 2-0 up. They were really on their game today, but the Chiefs still had their opportunities, although they were mostly being limited to shots from distance such was the Colts determination to take this game by the scruff of its neck, the defence timing their tackles well and playing as a solid unit. One Chiefs shot fizzed past the post but Danielle had this covered. The Colts had not finished yet and a move broken up by Cameron saw Ewan feed a clearance to Joe running through the middle, he took the ball on before laying the ball out wide to a supporting Sid, as they advanced on goal Sid knocked the ball back across to Joe who promptly tapped the ball in to the net to give the Colts a convincing half time lead. HT 3-0 The Colts re-started the second half which saw Harry come on for Adam, resuming where they had finished off they were soon on the attack and won two corners in quick succession, the latter of which was well defended by the Chiefs. It was then the turn of the Chiefs who intercepted the ball in midfield and pressurised to win a corner, this was repulsed but the ball was directed back in towards goal and it was Danielle who once again made a clean save. The Colts were still keen to impress the watching crowd who seemed to be enjoying both sides playing such an enterprising game of football. Still the Colts were looking to press, Harry was set free and was looking to score when the Chiefs defender made a great tackle to thwart the move, the ball ran out to the dead ball line where Joe latched on to it and with great skill drilled the ball home from the tightest of angles. To their credit the Chiefs were still trying to get something out of the game, their midfield advancing down the right flank only to see Ewan time his firm tackle to perfection and slide in to take the ball out for a Chiefs throw, the ball into the box found the head of the Chiefs striker at the near post where Danielle made a clean save. It was the Colts day but a melee in front of goal saw the Colts fail to clear their lines properly and the Chiefs pulled a goal back. A Colts powerful defensive clearance set them away again, the Chiefs goalie making a smart double save to prevent another score. FT 4-1 Scorers: Joe (4) MOTM: Danielle Captain: Sid Well played the Chiefs, this was a thoroughly entertaining game to watch although some finger nails were probably bitten to the quick as well.Credit must go to both sets of players and their managers for the quality and standard of play. The Colts came out on top with a powerful display full of energy, pace and commitment.
Managers Comment The Colts who have had a tricky run of fixtures of late went into this game knowing that they had to come away with something to keep their title dreams alive against a Quality Chief outfit that are the only team in the league not to drop a point. Has Geoff quiet rightly mentions the energy pace and commitment from the off was quiet something , but for me adding to that the levels of concentration and disciplined performances from across the park were key factors to us unlocking this one. It was a performance that as a coach , parent or player you came away feeling very proud. It was only a few years ago before we divided up into teams that I was involved in coaching a number of the chiefs players and it was great to see first hand just how far they have also progressed. This Chief squad is more than capable of going one better than last year and the scoreline far from reflects just how good this Chief team really is. It is still early days in the race for title and the Chiefs will certainly be in the mix come the end of season. We wish their players and families well. Well Done Colts…..

14th October-Bulkington Bullets (A) 0-4 (W)
|
|
Colts v Bullets For the second week in succession the Colts were playing on Bulkingtons’ home pitch, this time they were pitting their wits against a strong Bullets team. They kicked off with Joe on the subs bench and with Adam wearing the captains armband. The game commenced with the Colts on the attack pushing the ball out wide as the Bullets put the ball out for the first throw in. The Colts progressed the play into the box to win a corner that was cleared to put them on the defensive as their opponents broke into their half. Cameron and Ewan were the stronger and repelled all advances with the midfield trio of Sid on the left, Kyle middle and Adam on the right supporting to ensure that it would be a tough task for the Bullets to try and break down the Colts. This left Danielle with little to do, but the confidence her goalkeeping abilities give to the team is recognised by everyone connected with the Colts. Sid showed some incisive attacking play on the left wing and was giving his opposite number a tough work out for a Sunday morning, Kyle was fully involved in the game and Harry was displaying his qualities latching on to every ball that came his way, one of which resulted in a second corner for the Colts. Again this was defended and the ball cleared, but like Bobby Darrins rubber ball, this one came bouncing back and once again it was Harry who showed a clean pair of heels as he wove through the defence to gain another corner. This came to nothing the ball eventually finding its way to Adam who turned one Bullets player before releasing to Kyle out near the right touchline, not one to pass up a possible opportunity, Kyle let fly as the ball whistled into the net to open the scoring. The Bullets re-started and made a foray into the Colts half, the move broke down and within two minutes the Colts had increased their lead as Sids guile combined with the industry of Kyle and Adam put Harry through who smartly slotted the ball into the bottom corner. The Bullets seemed to have run out of ammunition as the Colts had the bit between their teeth and were now getting into their stride and were galloping at their opponents with a determination to put the game beyond doubt, one shot from Kyle brought out a great save from the goalie as he pushed the ball past the post for yet another Colts corner. This fizzled out and it was time for Joe to come on in place of Sid. The Bullets mounted an attack that was quickly broken down, Ewan laying the ball out wide to Adam who jinked past a defender before slipping the ball through to Joe, a neat pass laid in front of Harry was only going one place- the onion bag, Harry doesn’t miss many when he can see the whites of the goalies eyes. HT 0-3 The Bullets kicked off the second half and despite putting some early pressure on the Colts defence there was clearly only one way this game was going to end as Harry won a series of corners in between neat inter play through midfield, whilst the defence thwarted any attempts to penetrate their guard. Sid came on for Kyle and the Colts were right in their stride, Joe was probing the defence when a push from behind earned a penalty. Harry stepped up and drilled the ball with precision to the goalies right to seal the game outright. FT 0-4 Captain: Adam Scorers: Harry (3), Kyle (1) MOTM: Kyle
Managers Comment: After the last 3 or so games were the Colts have struggled to make a good start, they took some almighty big steps to putting that right today . The football from the off was top draw in the opening period with Colts moving the ball around the pitch delightfully at times, creating chance after chance and the Colts were good value for 3-0 lead they took into the break, however much credit to the Bullets who came out for the second half showing they were no push overs and they really took the game to the Colts and really stretched our rear guard in the second half, but giving away a blatant penalty for pushing seemed to be the final nail and the Colts would not look back from here. The Bullets are a team we very much respect, and after some titanic battles with them last year, we know were always in for tough game against them , however with the Colts firing on all cylinders and the Bullets some what miss firing it was probably our most comfortable win against them to date, thou im sure they will look to set the record straight as we will have to play them at least another twice this season. We wish them well..

13th October-Nuneaton Boro White (h) 10-0 (W)
|
|
Tamworth Cup A slight change of formation today with changes made to cover for Danielle’s absence and the obvious change to six-aside, and after another slow start the Colts finally worked there way throu the gears and by half time were 4 goals to the good. Credit to the Boro`s White team as they never gave up and worked really hard for each other , however the passing and movement of the Colts team was a little to much for them and the second half saw another 6 goals added by the Colts A nice change to play a game on a Saturday morning, and good luck to the boro for the rest of their season.
Final Score 10-0

7th October 2007-Bulkington Braves (A) 2-2 (D)
|
|
Colts v Braves Joe was elected as team captain for this match which saw the Colts line up against the Braves on their home pitch in Bulkington. The Colts kicked off and were straight on to the offensive, the move quickly broke down though as the opposition took possession of the ball and played it out wide to the right, strong play with midfield support put the Braves in the driving seat as the ball was crossed in and tucked away for an early lead. This setback at least allowed the Colts plenty of time to attempt to make amends as they strove to get into the game and show their quality. With the midfield of Sid, Kyle and Joe working hard the Colts won their first corner of the game, the ball was swung over and Joe was unlucky not to get on the score sheet as he headed over for a goal kick. Despite their efforts the Colts didn’t seem to be firing on all cylinders and were caught short as Bulkington pushed forward and extended their lead knocking the ball past Danielle who was unlucky not to get a touch on the ball to keep the danger at bay. The Colts suddenly seemed to have rubbed the sleep out of their eyes as they put together a series of attacking moves that saw Harry put the Braves defence to the test, first by turning them through the middle and chasing the ball out wide to put them under pressure. The Braves cleared one such threat deep into the Colts half, Cameron and Ewan combined as the ball was played forward, it found the feet of Harry who scored a good break away goal as he promptly rolled the ball into the back of the net to pull one back. It was definitely game on now as the attacks started to flow into the Braves half, Joe winning a second corner for the Colts. Adam replaced Kyle and was straight into the game, showing good pace and neat foot work as the Colts pressed. The half finished on a high as a throw in from Ewan saw Harry break away again and win another corner, there was no doubting the Colts threat was rising. HT 2-1 The Braves re-started and the game saw some midfield tussles, neither side giving an inch as Cameron repulsed everything that came his way. Harry was showing the Braves defence a clean pair of heels and their goalie made some crucial saves to prevent the Colts from levelling. Corners were won in quick succession as the Colts showed their resolve, despite having gone two down early on in the game their heads hadn’t dropped as they were determined not to let those strikes put them on the back foot for the rest of the game. Cameron was replaced by Kyle who stepped on as front defender whilst Ewan reverted to the back. The Colts continued to take the game to their opponents who were also showing their quality with some strong midfield play, it wasn’t one way by any means but the Colts were looking strong in all areas of the pitch, particularly in midfield where Joe collected the ball from a defensive pass out, drifting past two players before laying the ball across to Harry who was clinical with his finishing to even the scores up. The Braves tried to come back but were thwarted each time, Ewan hit a high ball up to Harry whose header was saved by the goalie to give the Colts another corner and the chance to keep at the Braves defence. The game was coming to a close as Harry turned his man following a clever pass from Sid winning the Colts one final corner before the ref blew for full time. FT 2-2 Scorers: Harry (2) MOTM: Harry. Captain: Joe As Bruce Forsyth would say, good game, good game. Full credit must go to both teams who played out an entertaining game that was enjoyed by both sets of supporters, spirit, determination and will to win was evident in a game that saw few fouls and plenty of enterprising play.
Managers Comment: This game started much the same as last week, only this time is was the Braves that came out from the starting Blocks all guns blazing , and before we knew it we were staring down the barrel two goals the worse, and against a team of the Braves quality it was going to be an absolute mountain we would have to climb to get back into this game, however slowly but surely the Colts did turn the screw on their Bulkington counterparts and by the second half the Colts had firmly turned the tables and there were times we began to wonder if a folk law Colts performance might just turn what started as an absolute disaster in to a vintage victory. A draw it was to be thou (the Colts first ever league draw), and a result im sure both camps were happy to take, with what they had witnessed (a great game) The Braves are one of the top sides in Nuneaton and with a League title already to their name, it was clear to see their hunger for a second title , however the Colts are made of tough stuff now a days and to come back against the Braves certainly made me and im sure many parents very proud. I will be putting the team on a Course of blue smarties before the next game in hope that we can start a little more lively!!!
A great game to watch today for the observer with not a bad tackle to be seen and with even the ref commenting how even he enjoyed it. However the management of both teams I’m sure will need a good lye down after this one. We wish the Braves well.

30th September 2007-St Nicolas Saints (H) 4-0 (W)
|
|
COLTS v SAINTS The Colts kicked off hoping to make it three wins on the trot. An early foray into the Saints half was repulsed and the Saints showed their intentions as they gained possession of the ball to launch their first attack. The defensive duo of Ewan and Cameron saw the ball out for a throw to the opposition who then followed on by fizzing a shot in from the left which seemed to clip the bottom of the post as Danielle touched it out for the first corner of the game. The Colts were slow into their stride and were allowing the Saints to come on to them, but as the ball broke through the midfield trio of Sid, Kyle and Joe, the signs were that the screw was about to be turned. Harry returned the ball to Joe whose shot skimmed the post with the keeper beaten. Sid showed quick feet to earn a corner that the goalie put out for another corner on the same side. Kyles cross was just an inch too high for the Colts massing in the box, the Saints cleared their lines only for Joe to send the ball over the top to Harry who was getting on the end of most things without finding the final touch. Further hard work from midfield allowed Kyle the space to shoot, the keeper parried the ball to Harry who promptly tucked the ball into the net to give the Colts the lead. The Saints went straight onto the offensive from the re-start but the move was quickly shut down, Cameron and Ewan combining to win the ball back before Ewan released Joe on the left, he battled to keep the ball against some strong Saints defensive work before releasing the ball to Harry whose shot sailed past the post. Adam came on for Sid who had shown great footwork throughout the first half as he pressed down the wing and harried when the Saints were pushing forward. A few minutes later and the referee blew the whistle for the break. HT 1-0 The Colts continued with their pressure in the second half, Harry being released at every opportunity, but following a Saints defensive clear out on the left when Harry laid the ball on it was Joe who promptly hit the back of the net to put the Colts two up. There seemed to be no way back for the Saints now, Sid replaced Joe and wasted no time in probing the Saints defence, Harry was on hand to take advantage and another goal was chalked up. The midfield were in their element and were passing the ball to feet, neat build up play on the left put Sid through but the goalie was equal to the shot. The Saints rallied but their move broke down on the edge of the box as a defensive interception pushed through the midfield, the play was carried to the Saints in a sweeping move up the pitch and found Harry who dribbled past a defender before slotting the ball into the net. The Saints attempted to catch Danielle out from the re-start but she was alert to the danger and collected the ball neatly and the game was effectively over. The Saints still pushed forward and won a corner but this was defended well and the Colts lines were cleared, the referee blowing for full time as the Colts won another corner. FT 4-0 Scorers: Harry (3), Joe (1). MOTM: Kyle. Captain: Kyle
Managers Comment : To be fair to our good friends and neighbours St Nic Saints the score line did make this look like a comfortable victory for the Colts, but it was far from that with the Saints being on top for the opening exchanges. To with stand the hurricane that blew toward the Colts goal and then turn that round and produce an almighty push of our own showed the character that runs through this Colt unit, and im sure will put us in good stead for the rest of the season. It was particular pleasing to see the team regain composure in the middle of the park and pass the ball around so well and it was this level of passing and movement that proved to be the difference between these two sides. A great display from Harry to get his hatrick, but a good striker needs good service and our midfield played a big part in that. I must mention our back division of Dani,Cam & Ewan you were more than tested in the opening exchanges but yet again proved why they are regarded as one of the league’s finest rear guards.
The management at the Saints have worked hard on and off the pitch to strengthen and bring a real togetherness in the Saint squad which is for all to see. The sprit in how hard their team work for each other is a great asset. They have a number of very dangerous players and I’m pretty sure they will have some sort of say to whom will lift the title, come the end of the year. We wish their players and family`s well..

23rd September 2007-Grove Farm Rangers (A) 0-3 (W)
|
|
Grove Farm Rangers v Colts
Cameron wore the captains armband as the Colts played their first away game of the season on a pitch that looked as if it had shrunk during the overnight rain shower. He correctly called the toss and elected to give Grove Farm the kick off whilst ensuring the Colts had the advantage of playing downhill for the first half. The Colts set their stall out as they robbed the ball from their opponents to set up the first attack although this broke down. Grove Farm created a chance on the left before the Colts took the game to them and forced two corners in quick succession, neither resulted in clear cut chances but it was obvious to those watching that the signs were ominous, it also looked like the Rangers goalie was going to be the main obstacle to any Colts success as he pulled off a couple of quality saves from Harry. At last the Colts made the break through as a Ewan throw in from the right saw Harry turn his man on a proverbial sixpence before laying the ball off to Joe on his left who lashed the ball in to break the deadlock. This spurred the Colts on as they continued to pressurise the home team, whilst Cameron and Ewan held the defence, the midfield of Kyle, Sid and Joe challenged for every ball and Harry’s penetrative runs at their opponents were restricting them to few chances. There were occasions when they closed in on the penalty area but as usual Danielle was ready with a safe pair of hands to keep the goal intact. On such an occasion it was Danielles kick out that led to some sterling terrier like play from Sid who earned his team a corner. Kyle swung this over and although it took a small deflection the resulting goal had Kyles name on it. Adam replaced Kyle as the Colts ran the Grove Farm defence down and were awarded two more corners, a melee in the box saw Sid keep his cool and bundle the ball in to give the Colts a convincing half time lead.
HT 0-3
Joe restarted the second half and almost caught out the home teams defence before they took control of the ball and launched their own attack in response, however the Colts were holding out well against anything Grove Farm tried and only one real chance fell their way, once again Danielle showed what an asset she is to the team. The Colts controlled the second half which saw Kyle come on for Sid who had worked tirelessly for the cause whilst following a corner Joe replaced Cameron. Although the persistant Harry was unlucky not to score on a number of occasions, full credit must go to the Grove Farm goalie who made some outstanding saves to prevent the Colts from clocking up a bigger score.
FT 0-3
MOTM: Ewan Captain: Cameron Scorers: Joe, Kyle, Sid
Managers Comment: Grovefarm is a never an easy place to visit, and with the pitch now adays being so very small and on such a slop the Colts game plan needed changing. The team listened well to what they were told at the start, and ajusted well to the conditions and there half time lead was much deserved. It was also pleasing to see new recruit Joe get his first League goal for the Colts and do it in such style. The second half required a much more disciplined performance as the Colts protected what they had and made sure the opposition couldn`t take advantage of the slope and thats just what the Colts did. The Gaffer has made Grovefarm are a very well organised outfit and they are more than capable of taking points off any of the top teams in this league. A trip to this ground in the cold and wet of the winter months is something thankfully the Colts will not have to go throu this year. Good luck Grove Farm and well done Colts.

16th September 2007-Bedworth Utd (H) 8-0 (W)
|
|
Colts v Bedworth Utd.
After both teams and spectators held a minutes silence for a Bedworth Utd parent, the Colts lined up ready for their first game of the new season. With a starting line up of Danielle in goal, Cameron at back defender, Ewan playing in front, the midfield trio of Sid Kyle and Declan with Harry up front and Adam and Joe warming up on the touchline, the home team kicked off and were straight on to the offensive. They applied lots of early pressure but without the final finish. It seemed some time before they were able to shrug off the early season cobwebs, but it was Declan who broke the deadlock when he stroked the ball in to the net after some good work on the left from Sid. Joe and Adam replaced Sid and Dec and this seemed to spur on their opponents who broke through, Danielle saving the shot after it re-bounded off the foot of the post. The Colts were determined not to be put off their stride and the next attack saw them win a free kick in the opponents half, Kyle blasted the ball past the keeper who to be fair was having a good game. Bedworth tried to press forward but the defence and midfield were too strong for them and a corner was tapped in at close range by Adam. Another attack instigated by strong running from Harry caused uncertainty in the Bedworth defence and the Colts were awarded a penalty which Harry calmly placed past the keeper.
HT 4-0
The re-start saw Sid and Dec on for Harry and Kyle and the Colts resumed normal service as Adam scored at the second attempt following some more persistent play from Sid. There was no stopping the Colts now although Bedworth were still full of running, they couldn’t get past Cameron. It looked like Danielle was going to keep another one of her clean sheets. Another goal followed when Adam was isolated near the corner flag, but with a neat pass he found Ewan who had advanced and who promptly delivered the ball from distance under the crossbar to chalk another one up for the team. Newcomer Joe was showing some nice touches with his left foot and delivered a perfect ball in to the box but no-one could get on the end of it. Harry came on for Cameron and soon after Kyle was on for Ewan. The next attack saw the Colts win a corner taken by Kyle which deceived the keeper as he palmed it into his own net. There was just one more score after Harry broke through and notched another one up for the Colts.
FT 8-0
The score did not reflect Bedworths efforts, they played right to the final whistle and were unlucky not to get a score on the board. Scorers: Dec (1), Kyle (2), Adam (2), Harry (2), Ewan (1). Captain : Harry MOTM: Joe
Managers Comment: A great start to the season with every member of the squad making a great contribution to this result. Although having much early possesion but not getting much reward it was good see the team not panic and keep playing the way they know how and eventually receive their rich rewards after breaking the ever hard working Bedworth team down. Well done everyone...Keep it up and good luck to Bedworth for the rest of the season
