Tamworth Cup. 10th November - Chiefs v Nuneaton Borough Blue (A) 0 - 3 (W)

The Chiefs travelled to George Eliot school to take on another unfamiliar outfit as they progress in this years Tamworth Invitational Trophy. On a tight pitch with a 6 aside format they lined up with Jacob in goal, Josh P. continuing his developing sweeper position. Josh N. & Dan playing just in front with Olly and Ben leading the line. Mitch, back after illness & Patrick started on the bench with Curtis away for the weekend and not available.
The half got off to a cracking start for the Chiefs when awarded a freekick in the 1st minute on the left just inside the Borough half. Dan stepped up to fire home a rocket in the top left hand corner giving the keeper no chance and getting the boys off to a flier. Josh N. & Josh.P were both solid early on, snubbing out Nuneaton's attacking efforts and when Borough did get a shot on target in the 5th Jacob was on his mettle palming the ball out for a corner. At the other end Ben & Olly were combining well together and in the 6th Ben went on a run along the inside right channel. Full of confidence he did a step over to beat the defender before unselfishly crossing the ball to Olly who took one touch before shooting home from 3 yards. Nuneaton replied almost immediately and a hard shot appeared to be going into the top left corner until Jacob stretched to push the ball wide. The 7th to 11th minutes saw the Chiefs forming attack after attack with Ben & Olly running at the defence causing them considerable problems. Both boys were unlucky not to increase the score with the Nuneaton keeper making excellent saves backed up by dogged defending by his defence. Borough made a substitution to try and stem the flow, the replacement having a considerable height and weight advantage over all the boys. On the break Borough were unlucky not to pull one back when a long range shot clipped Jacob's bar on the way over. The Chiefs did however make it three in the12th minute when Olly whipped in a corner from the left. The ball deflected off a Borough player in an unfortunate manner giving the keeper little chance. The half concluded with Ben running at goal with pace having another shot well saved.

HT 0 - 3

The second half saw Mitch replace Ben up front and Patrick take over from Olly. Mitch was soon in the action shooting wide of the left post from a right position. Josh P. enjoying his new role made an excellent block and Josh N. made a crunching tackle on the big lad as Nuneaton came more into the game. Mitch had another shot from the right which went over and Pat was getting stuck in stopping the strong Borough player getting a shot in with a last gasp touch on the ball. But the tide was turning. Borough forced a corner after another good save by Jacob. The resulting goal mouth scramble saw Josh trap the ball between his legs whilst on the floor before Dan booted the ball clear. The powerful Borough player was causing all kinds of trouble but the Chiefs did not back off him. Jacob made another good save at his feet in the 22nd. The Chiefs were being restricted to breaks on goal. Mitch crossing from the right for Josh N. whose shot was well blocked. With the clock running down Pat's run on the left was ended with a trip but Dan could not repeat his first half feat with the ball going over the bar. The half ended in typical spirit with Josh N. making another thumping tackle on the big borough player.

FT 0 - 3

Well done to the Chiefs who progress into the next round. The team played well as a team both in attacking flair and dogged defending. Thanks to Nuneaton who played fairly and determinedly causing us some problems particularly in the second half. Chiefs man of the match goes to Josh Newton for his tenacious tackling on a boy nearly twice his size!

3rd November - Chiefs v Bedworth United (H) 4 - 0 (W)

Following their first defeat of the season last week the boys were keen to get back into winning ways and lined up in an experimental new system. With Jacob in goals Josh P. took the role of sweeper with Dan infront of him on the right and Josh N. on the left. Curtis started right midfield with Ben on the left and Olly up front. With Mitch poorly, Patrick was the only reserve.
The first minute saw the Chiefs on the attack with Ben having a volley shot blocked and Curtis having a hard low shot from the edge of the box well saved by the United keeper low to his left. With Curtis strong on the right wing the Chiefs had a succession of corners but all seemed to evade the Chiefs attacking players. In the 5th Dan who seemed to relish playing on the right, beat two midfielders before unleashing a long range shot that was unfortunate to go wide of the left post. A minute later a solid Dan tackle in midfield set up a move on the right and Olly despite every effort could not quite get enough on the Curtis cross to steer the ball on target. The new shape Chiefs defence was learning on the job with Josh P. & Dan snuffing out the odd Bedworth attack and Josh P. getting to know his differing role.
The Chiefs seemed to be playing at a low tempo whilst in control of the game. The deadlock was finally broken in the 7th minute when Curtis dispossesed a United player on the right and fired in a firm ball into the United box. The ball struck a defenders hand and could have been given either way but the referee pointed to the spot. Curtis took the penalty himself shooting home low the keepers left giving him no chance. The next few minutes saw the Chiefs mount numerous attacks but for an unknown reason their final finishes lacked snap. In the 11th Pat came on as a straight swap for Olly. Bedworth continued to tackle well and battle for every ball with Jacob having little to do but collect one through ball with safe hands. Mid way through the 14th Ben & Pat swapped positions with Ben having a left foot shot once again well saved by the impressive United keeper. On the turn of 15 mins Curtis put in the second of succesive corners from the left and Dan majestically ghosted in on the far post to volley home his long overdue first goal of the season. Pat was battling away on the left and showing signs of the good touches to come in the second half. The long half closed with the Chiefs pressing. On 17 Dan had another long range shot and from the resulting corner Ben met the ball sweetly with his head. However instead of the net bulging the ball went agonisingly wide of the left post with the goaly well beaten.

HT 2 - 0

The second half started with Olly back on for Pat. Bedworth started off with an attack but the chiefs countered and Olly had a good run at goal before being well tackled. Josh N. weighed in with a shot in the 17th and a minute later Ben & Curtis combined well with a Curtis shot again well saved. Josh P. was now getting used to his new position and was making some timely interventions. In the 20th the Chiefs continued to press and Ben at full stretch just failed to get onto a Curtis cross with Olly also in the mix. The Chiefs tried to change their luck with Curtis going to centre forward and Olly on the right. But it was Jacob next into the action with a sharp move off his line to take the ball bravely off the feet of an attacking United player. The Chiefs were soon back into attacking mode however with good passages of play involving Curtis, Ben & Josh N. with Curtis having another shot well saved by the United keeper. Bedworth were quick in the tackle at all times and Jacob was called to make another save in the 23rd. Ben was then taken off with Pat keen to resume. United were having their best period of play forcing Dan & Josh N. to defend hard. Jacob was again called upon to save after the Greens broke free on their right. The 25th minute saw Pat getting more confident in his role and he went on a run with a fierce shot saved by the keepers face as he bravely made himself big. The next minute saw Pat have another shot saved before he finally got his reward. Curtis putting the ball into the box for Pat to take one touch before stretching to poke the ball past the keeper from 3 yards for his first league goal. Josh P. was now distributing the ball well from the back with breaks resulting in Pat having a shot hit the bar, another Curtis shot being scrambled off the line and Dan having another effort. The Chiefs wound up their scoring for the day 2 minutes from time in the 30th when Curtis fired in a shot from the right. The ball was heading towards the far post area when an unfortunate defender made contact deflecting the ball into the net.

FT 4 - 0

Well done to the Chiefs who with an experimental formation completed a good win. Well done to Bedworth who tackled hard and fair and were ufortunate not to get a goal. Chiefs man of the match was Patrick for an excellent display and his first competitive goal for the Chiefs.

28th October - Chiefs v St Nicolas Colts (A) 4 - 1 (L)

This was the eagerly awaited top of the table derby clash with league leaders the Colts taking on second place Chiefs. There was a large crowd of between 60 & 70 people present and the Chiefs lined up with Jacob in goal, Josh P.& Josh N. in defence protected by Dan. Ben & Curtis made up the midfield with Olly leading the line. Subs were Patrick & Mitch.
The Chiefs made a good solid start with Ben getting his head on a corner from the right in the 1st but his effort went wide of the right post. The Colts were strong in the tackle and quick in their play and had a shot in the 3rd that was deflected behind by Dan for a corner. The game was end to end stuff with the Chiefs back on the attack with Olly & Curtis breaking resulting in a shot by Curtis from the right being saved by the impressive Colts keeper.
The deadlock was broken in the 5th when the Colts again attacked with pace and numbers, the Colts big No 5 striking from a central position to give Jacob no chance. The Chiefs were up against it for the first time this season but continued to fight for every ball. In the 6th Dan had a shot from deep but again the keeper showed a safe pair of hands.. The Chiefs were finding it difficult to make progress against a very good Colts side who continued to attack at every opportunity. The Chiefs play makers forced to take on a more defensive role. The task facing the Chiefs became harder in the 11th when a fierce Colts freekick was pushed out by Jacob. A Colts player was first to react to shoot home their second. The Chiefs continued to give it their all however and in the 13th the ball broke lose to Ben on the edge of the box but his shot went wide of the left hand post.
The Colts came straight back at the Chiefs and on the turn of the 14th minute another swift break resulted in a cross from the left being met with another excellent finish from 3 yards to make it three nil.

HT 3 - 0

The Chiefs knew they had an uphill task in the second half but were determined to get back into the game. But after an early exchange of play they were back under pressure with both Josh N. & Josh P. doing well to block shots for corners. In the 20th a good Chiefs move resulted in a corner on the left. Olly put in a lovely ball but Dan's header was well caught by the keeper. The Chiefs hopes of getting back in the game were dashed in the 21st when the Colts again broke away in attack. Josh P. made a tremendous last gasp covering tackle but the ball broke wide right. A Colts player was again first to the ball to fire home well with a left foot from a very narrow angle.
The Chiefs showed excellent spirit and continued to fight and press. The 22nd minute saw a Curtis throw from the right headed strongly goalwards by Olly but again the Colts keeper was up to the save. In the 24th the Chiefs were rewarded for all their efforts when the ball broke on the edge of the Colts area. Curtis was on hand to score low and in off the left hand post. The rest of the half was fairly even with Ben who worked tirelessly up and down the left flank having an effort from the edge of the area saved. In the 27th Jacob kept the Colts out with an excellent double save from a corner and Curtis was again unlucky to have an fierce shot well saved, the ball seeming to be destined for the top right corner but kept out by the excellent keeper.

FT 4 - 1

An excellent game played with determination and considerable skill on both sides. Well done to the Colts who gave the Chiefs their toughest game to date. They were quick and powerful. Well done of course to the Chiefs who never gave up, gave the Colts a good game and were better than the scoreline suggested. Man of the match for the Chiefs was Ben Toms for his endless running and commitment.

Tamworth Cup. 13th October - Chiefs v Cottage Farm Celtic (H) 6 - 0 (W)

The Chiefs were drawn at home for their first ever cup tie against unkown opposition from the Tamworth League. The competition is based on 6 a side so the starting line up was restricted to Jacob in goal, Josh N. & Josh P. in defence with Dan just in front. Curtis & Olly led the line with Mitch, Patrick, Fraser & Ben warming the bench.
It was a damp morning with the ball zipping across the surface. Celtic, despite an overall height disadvantage showed some good touches early on and Jacob did well on 2 minutes to save an early Celtic shot. The Chiefs soon however got into attacking mode with Olly skimming the bar from range in the 3rd and then on the stroke of the 4th put the Chiefs one up with a classy curling right foot effort from wide left outside the Celtic box.
Celtic from the restsrt came back at the Chiefs with Josh N. Dan & Josh P. all making good solid tackles. Josh N. putting Olly free on the left to cross perfectly for the unmarked Curtis infront of goal. However the Celtic keeper came out to make a remarkable block save. On the turn of the 7th the Chiefs increased their lead when Josh P. set up Curtis on the right. His low hard shot zipped across the surface deceiving the Celtic keeper as it went just inside the right upright.
At 8 mins Ben replaced Olly but Celtic were not giving up with their impressive No 8 having an excellent turn and shot well pushed wide by Jacob. The Chiefs came straight back with an interchange between Ben & Curtis resulting in Curtis squaring to Josh P. who scored his second of the season with his right from close range. Ben was beginning to put his mark on the game with a turn and shot from the edge of the box followed by a header from a Curtis cross going narrowly over. In the 12th good battling by Josh N. resulted in a free kick to the Chiefs on the right just inside the Celtic half. Curtis unleashed a blistering drive that the keeper did well to push out but Ben was on hand to be first to the ball and loop a right foot effort from wide right into the net.
On 12 mins Patrick replaced Curtis with the half concluding in midfield stalemate. The Celtic No 8 again showing some excellent skill.

HT 4 - 0

The second half started with Jacob, the 2 Josh's, Dan, Curtis and Fraser. The first 4 mins had the Chiefs controlling the midfield but threatening little up front despite Fraser chasing every ball. Celtic still pressed however with Dan having to remain sharp to block a through ball with Celtic having a man over. The visitor's No 8 continued to impress when he pounced on a clearance from Jacob only to be unlucky and put his shot wide left. In the 21st the Celtic keeper was brave at the feet of Fraser from a Curtis corner. Josh N. in the 23rd was unlucky to see a shot from the left hit the nearside post. Later in the 23rd Mitch replaced Fraser and straight away got stuck in. The visitors again forced Jacob into a good save with his foot in the 25th.
A minute later Josh P. was unlucky not to notch his second when on a run on the right. His hard shot into the box was deflected by a defender and bounced off the right hand post. Towards the end of the 26th Olly replaced Josh N. and a minute later good work by Olly & Curtis fed Mitch on the left, his cross / shot deflecting off an unfortunate defender and into the goal for the Chiefs 5th. Curtis got his second and the Chiefs 6th a minute later when Olly crossed from the right for the Chiefs top scorer to slot home. On the turn of the 29th Ben replaced Curtis and just had time to have a shot from a Dan through ball which went just wide of the right post.

FT 6 - 0

Well done to the Chiefs who progress to the next round. Congratulations to the Jacob and the rest of the team for getting a 3rd successive clean sheet.
Thanks to Cottage Farm who played some neat attractive football and were unfortunate not to score.

7th October - Chiefs v Bedworth Eagles (A) 0 - 4 (W)

The Chiefs travelled to Bedworth playing Jacob in goal, Josh P & Josh N in defence with a midfield of Curtis, Dan & Ben. Olly led the line with Mitch & Patrick starting as subs.
The game started with an unsettled 3 minutes as the Chiefs tried to find thier rythm. Early in the 4th they started to gel with Curtis & Ben combining well. This combination was to prove fruitful when Curtis crossed the ball from the right with some pace for Ben to hit the ball first time from 3 yrds out, his effort squirming low just inside the right post to put the Chiefs one up. The Chiefs were now in full flow and a good tackle by Josh N. set up Ben on the left mid way through the 5th. Bens left foot crossball found Curtis unmarked central to goal making no mistake from 8 yrds to notch up the second.
It was all the Chiefs now and another run by Ben forced a corner which Olly took. Ben was onto the lose ball in the box but his effort was adjudged not to have crossed the line by the referee. The Chiefs defence were coping with anything that came thier way and Josh N made a thumping fair tackle in the 6th to seal his authority. In the 7th the lead was increased to three when a Curtis corner wasn't cleared and Josh P fired the ball home with some style from 3 yards for his first goal of the season. The Chiefs continued to press with Dan & Ben both having efforts blocked. The pressure paid off in the 9th when a cross in from the right was handled by an unlucky Eagles defender. Curtis stepped up to shoot home for his 2nd of the match. After 9 minutes Mitch & Patrick replaced Olly & Ben. The Chiefs remained on top with Dan, Pat, Josh N & Curtis all having efforts, the Eagles being strong in the air defensively. Dan was marshalling the defence well and had to chase back well in the 13th when a tall Eagles player went on a run. The threat being squashed with a saving tackle by Josh P. The substitutes for the Chiefs wer getting stuck in and in the 14th Mitch passed to Curtis who set up Pat for a shot that was saved by the keeper. Later in the 15th Josh N went on a storming run on the left finding himself deep into the Eagles area. The ball broke for Dan who hit a good shot from distance to be put wide for a series of corners.

HT 0 - 4

The second half started with Olly & Ben replacing Mitch & Pat. Ben soon had a chance but shot wide from a Curtis cross. In the 16th Olly made a good run from halfway, the ball breaking to Ben whose first shot was blocked and the second went over the bar. Josh P made an excellent intervention in the 17th stretching out a long leg to stop an Eagles attack. Olly & Ben combined again in the 18th, Olly laying the ball off to Ben who shot just wide of the left post. Olly & Ben swapped positions and the Chiefs continued to attack. In the 20th a good ball by Josh N. resulted in an Olly effort being pushed out by the keeper to Dan whose effort flashed across the goal. In the consequent minutes Josh N. Dan & Curtis all had shots with the later hitting a post. It seemed like the Chiefs were doing everything but increase thier lead. In the 26th minute Jacob, who had had a quite game was called into action. A promising run on the right by the Eagles resulted in a good crossfield ball. Jacob had to be smart off his line to beat the onrushing forward to the ball. The Chiefs went back on the attack, Curtis putting Mitch through. His shot was half blocked and Pat was onto the ball but his left foot shot went agonisingly wide of the left post. Mitch was trying hard to increase the lead but was unlucky to see a shot go wide then have another blocked by the keeper and a further effort well saved again.

FT 0 - 4

Well done to the Chiefs who played really well. An all round team effort with some excellent football at times. Thank you and well done to the Eagles who never gave up, defending hard and managing to shut out the Chiefs in the second half.

23rd September - Chiefs v Bulkington Bullets (H) 2 - 0 (W)

The Chiefs were keen to line up against the Bullets and resume their Monarch league programme after the Braves had pulled out of last weeks fixture. The Blues, resplendent in their new kit took the field with Jacob King in goals, Josh Preston and Josh Newton in defence with Dan Head sitting just in front. The midfield consisted of Curtis Beeby and Mitch Hammonds with Olly Grainger leading the attack. On the bench was Patrick Jones and the unfortunate Ben Toms who was laid low with a bout of sickness.
The Chiefs pressed from the off with Mitch just failing to get on the end of a Curtis cross from the right. The bullets came back with Josh Preston clearing and then there was a sign of things to come when the Bullets won a free kick in their own half. The Bulkington No 10 hit a powerful dead ball which deceived Jacob bouncing over him and the Chiefs goal. The resultant corner was well cleared by Dan with a solid header. In the 3rd minute the Chiefs had their first clear chance when Curtis made a block tackle in the Bullets half. Mitch ran onto the ball and hit a strong shot just wide of the right post. In the 5th Mitch had another shot blocked following good approach work from Olly and Josh P. The Chiefs were coping with the Bullets in open play but in the 6th the opposition were awarded another free kick on half way. The same No 10 hit another good strike which looked to be heading for the top right corner until Jacob stretched a hand to brilliantly tip the ball over. The Chiefs wer passing the ball well and in the 10th Josh N put a lovely through ball to Curtis who's shot from around the penalty spot was well saved by the handy Bulkington keeper. Curtis continued to shoot on sight and in the 12th the deadlock was broken when Dan collected the ball in midfield before slotting the ball to Curtis in the inside right channel. This time he did not miss from the edge of the area. Curtis and Olly continued to combine well for the rest of the half. Dan was calmness personified in the middle and the two Josh's tidied up anything that the Bullets had to offer. Just before the break in the 14th Patrick replaced Mitch.

HT 1 - 0

Patrick soon got stuck in and along with Josh P cleared an early Bullets attack. After a minute Olly went on one of his determined runs on the left only to be cut down in mid flow. The resultant knock forcing him to be substituted by Mitch. From the free kick Curtis made no mistake notching his and the Chiefs second giving the keeper no chance. In the 18th, pressure by Dan & Curtis saw Patrick have a snap shot with his left that went just wide of the left upright. The Chiefs showed some excellent passing and movement off the ball to dominate the midfield. Mitch & Pat were getting stuck in and both Curtis and Dan had efforts well saved. Josh P & Josh N were also in control at the back. In the 23rd the Bulkington No 10 did finally manage to break through the Chiefs defence but struck the ball over from close range. The Chiefs then resumed their pressure with Mitch unlucky to see a shot hit the side netting. Olly replaced Mitch in the 25th minute and the Chiefs played out the rest of time with Curtis again thwarted by the impressive Bullets keeper.

FT 2 - 0

Well done to the Chiefs who continue their 100% start to the season. Thanks to the Bullets who were competitive throughout giving us a good testing game.

9th September - Chiefs v St Nicolas Saints (A) 1 - 2 (W)

A big crowd descended on Milby for this eagerly awaited inter club opener to the under 9's Monarch League season. A bright morning saw the Chiefs line up with an experimental defensive formation. With new team keeper Jacob King in goal, Josh Preston played infront of him behind a packed midfield of Dan Head,Curtis Beeby,Josh Newton & Olly Grainger. Ben Toms spearheaded the attack. On the bench for the start were new signings Mitch Hammonds & Patrick Jones.
The Chiefs forced the early play with Curtis shooting from the kick off followed by a trademark freekick from the right well cleared by a good defensive header, the resultant corner coming to nothing. The Saints however showed a sign of things to come by coming back at the Chiefs, having an early shot and causing Josh P. work in defence. In the 3rd minute Ben relieved the pressure with a good run on the left beating two players but just running the ball out of play in an attempt to pull the ball back. The midfield was busy with forward play by both teams. The Chiefs began to force the play with a 4th minute shot by Olly following a throughball by Curtis well saved by the Saints keeper. Then Curtis had another shot which seemed to be goalbound until a defender stuck out a foot to deflect the ball wide of the right post for a corner. The Saints however weathered the storm and came back at the Chiefs, Curtis, Dan & the two Josh's all making good defensive tackles. The deadlock though was broken in the 9th when Olly picked the ball up on the right near the halfway line. He passed a lovely ball inside to an onrunning Ben who dribbled clear of the last defender. He kept his cool placing an accurate left foot low shot to the right of the oncoming keeper to notch up his and the Chiefs first goal of the new campaign. From the kick off the Chiefs again pressed but in the 11th the Saints, displaying an excellent fighting spirit, had a 3 on 1 attacking situation. Jacob did well to get his foot to the shot and Dan desparately cleared. The midfield battle continued with Josh N, Dan & Josh P. making some firm tackles and Dan & Olly linking up well. The 13th minute saw Mitch replace Ben and the Chiefs continued to pressure till half time with Patrick replacing Olly just before the whistle.

HT 0 - 1

The second half started like the first with the Chiefs on the attack. Curtis had another long range shot saved by the keeper. Patrick got involved in midfield and Josh N. showed some good touches. In the 18th the Chiefs increased their lead when a through ball by Curtis bounced off an unlucky defender and stood up for an onrushing Mitch to strike home his first league goal for the Chiefs with his right foot from 5 yards. With Dan straight away having a looping shot from the right go narrowly over the bar it looked like the Chiefs were comfortable but the Saints to their credit came back with determination. In the 19th Josh P. found himself once again the last line of defence clearing well but the Saints kept coming causing panic in the Chiefs ranks. The Chiefs were caught out of position with missed tackles allowing the Saints to break from halfway in the 19th and deservedly pull a goal back with a shot from close range. The Chiefs reverted to their usual 3-2-1 formation but the Saints with their tails up continued to pressure. In the 22nd minute Olly replaced Patrick but it took another couple of minutes before the Chiefs regained some control. In the 25th Mitch ran onto a through ball but his shot was well saved by the keeper who reacted well to save a Curtis shot from the rebound. The 26th minute saw Ben replace Mitch up front once again and he and Olly combined well with Josh N. to force a couple of corners. The Saints however did not give up with the Chiefs having to defend to a man. A late freekick was awarded to the Saints but the Chiefs survived with the last gasp shot going wide of the left post.

FT 1 - 2

Well done to the Chiefs for winning their opening game of the season against a Saints team that appeared improved from last season. Congratulations to the new team members for their first league game with Mitchel bagging his first goal on his debut. Thanks to the Saints who really gave us a game and were unlucky not to equalise.
