Progress continues with emphatic win

St Nicolas Sporting 5 Market Bosworth 0

Sporting's third pre-season freindly kicked off on a glorious Sunday morning last week. Still missing a number of players due to holidays the lads produced a really pleasing performance as they grow in confidence for the forthcoming season.
Early first half Bosworth pressure was expertly quashed by a back four of Thomas, Cameron, Mitchell and Tom. Sporting took the lead through a crisp finish by EWAN and then extended the score to 2-0 midway through the first half with a good finish from LUCAS after he spotted the keeper out of position. After 25 minutes Lucas dropped into the back 4 to re-charge and Mitchell slotted into the centre of midfield. This paid dividends immediately as 25 yards out MITCH picked up the ball, shifted it onto his left foot and curled a beauty into the top corner.
Half Time 3-0
Freindlys are about trying different things and Sporting switched to 3 at the back in the second half. This enabled Thomas to push up more and provide more width. After 40 minutes FINLEY used his magic to dribble past a couple of defenders and unleash a rasping drive with his left foot which nestled nicely in the back of the net.
Sporting missed a couple of further opportunities before Daniel got the rewards his efforts deserved by tapping in a fifth.
Overall a good performance and a special thank you to Cameron and Ewan for helping us out and Ryan who kept a clean sheet in goal to confirm he will be our back-up option should Jordan be unable to play in goal at any time.

Well done lads

Follow our progress !!!

Why not follow the progress of the lads with your own "Story of the Season" sheet ? I've attached it for you to download and it will tell you our opponents and the kit we will be wearing at home and away! You can then add in the results and scorers as we go through the season. Please bear in mind that the home and away kits i've chosen are due to other teams' colours, although as we progress i may change them once or twice to Yellow shirt, Blue shorts and white socks (a la Brazil) to give the lads an extra psychological lift against the opposition if i feel we need it !!
Enjoy !

Firefighters nearly extinguished !!

Sporting played their second 11-a-side freindly on Saturday the 8th of August, entertaining Firefighter Rangers. In an excellent end-to-end clash the sides shared the spoils with a 4-4 draw.
Sportings squad was ravished by absence due to holidays and six of our 15 were away to the sunshine. A depleted squad meant lots of changes with the lads playing in a number of different positions. My starting 11 for the first game is around 70% identified and the lads showed great versatility in every position they were asked to play.
With a strong Mitch/Lucas combination in the heart of midfield, Josh and Thomas had the opportunity to use the flanks. Both did so and Josh notched two poachers goals in the first half. The second a superb mid-air overhead kick which brought a "Roker Roar" from the crowd!!
Some slick movement and excellent finishing by the visitors gave Firefighters a 3-2 half time lead.
The second half saw a number of changes to position, James and Lewie moving into more familiar positions of Centre Half and Striker. Tom and Josh swapped flanks and the team had a more balanced feel.
Lucas equalised with a goal which would be a contender for solo goal of the season, picking the ball up on the half way line, beating three players and cooly finishing with a shot in the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Sporting then took the lead with another from Lucas to make it 4-3 but almost immediately Firefighters pulled level again.
A good workout for our lads in warm conditions but again Jordan was commanding in the box and marshalled his defence well, it's really pleasing to see that in spite of a little trepidation before our freindlies Jordan hasn't made any mistakes and is continueing to grow in confidence. The back four were disciplined, midfield worked hard, Josh excelled in his new position, and we again look dangerous every time we go forward. Nine goals in two 11-a-side games so far tells you we are developing nicely.
Well done lads, you all played well
I'll have to visit the Doctor as my selection headaches are getting worse in the run up to the big kick off !!!!

Like ducks to water !!

St Nicolas Sporting played their first 11-a-side freindly on Saturday the 11th of July and what a start !! The lads looked like they'd been playing the full version of the game all their lives! All 14 lads put in excellent performances and played as a unit in an emphatic 5-3 victory. In an excellent match against Bulkington Bullets, Sporting looked confident in defence and dangerous in attack. It was emphasised during the pre-match team talk that during our freindly's the lads are playing for a place in the starting 11 when the season starts and i was pleased with the reaction. Two goals from debut boy "Kaka" Wilkins, a cool finish from "The Ninja", a curling top corner special from Mitch and a "Cantona" like bullet from Lewie ensured the boys can be confident of an excellent season in prospect come September.
WELL DONE BOYS-GREAT START

Thomas and James sign !!

St Nicolas Sporting can now announce the signings of Thomas and James. Both players put pen to paper this week to take the Sporting squad from 9 to 11 players. The signings leave just one place available in the squad before Sporting have their full compliment of players for 9-a-side next season.
Both players are expected to make their debuts in the pre-planned summer tournaments and are great additions to the squad.

Welcome boys !!!

Sporting Signings iminent !

The future's bright, the future's Blue and White (plus Yellow on away days!!) St Nicolas Sporting are on the verge of securing two signings in preparation for next season. Although the names of the two players cannot be revealed until they put pen to paper the rumour is an exciting winger in the Ronaldo mould and a John Terry like tough tackler. Manager Martin Shelton said"With lots of preparation work to do ready for next season we're excited to be nearing having a complete squad to work with. Both these lads will be valuable members of an already superb squad"
